New York

Ok, I am looking at some maps of new york...I am wanting to know..

Is the state of new york basically nothign but a large city? I see New York City and then all of these other towns about 10 miles away from it. Are they just different areas/neighborhoods of New york city or are they separate cities? For Example, Harlem, Queens, etc. These are separate cities? Also I have heard of places liek Manhattan, Soho, etc but I type in Soho, NY and it says there is no such city. Do they all run together or is there a bit of open land between them? These questions may sound stupid but i've never been to NY.

Hmmm....I don't know the answer to your question, but I was wondering why you are looking at a map of NY at 2 o'clock in the morning. Are you planning on visiting or something?

I was looking at home gyms on yahoo.com and saw the "maps" feature. Damn...2 am and my first day on a new job tomorrow...maybe i should hit the hay.

Garza,

New York City is made up of 5 boroughs (I think). They're Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, Long Island, and Brooklyn.

Harlem and Soho are both in New York City. They're not separate cities.

By the way, there are a lot of other cities and towns in New York besides the City.

Upstate NY is beautiful. Go sometime.

So if you were from harlem you would say, "I am from the Harlem area of NY." Or would that just be Harlem, NY. Ive always wondered about NY.

You'd say, "I'm from New York City." If you're then asked which part, you'd answer, "Harlem".

Don't listen to the Steel Beast. Gay guys don't live in Soho anymore. That's so 1980s. All the guys live in Chelsea.

Straight people. Gotta love 'em.

May1010, its about 11:13 pm where you are at, right? Isn't it time to go jerk off to pics of Gunter Schlierkamp before you go to bed? LOL

Maybe after I finish watching a rerun of "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "Frasier".

May, on a level of 1 to 10, how aroused did you get when seeing Macauly Caulkin in nothing but a bath towel in Home Alone? HEHE

Garza,

You ask a question about New York and I try to help you. You respond by insulting me? I'll remember that in the future. Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I like little boys. You've successfully offended me. Congratulations.

Regards,
May1010

May, I was merely joking. I am sorry if I have offended you, that's the last thing I want to do. Most of the time you keep a sense of humor and laugh at the gay jokes.

lmao at steelbeast... your replies are too funny although not all together incorrect lol... they are the un-pc answers and may has the pc answers... there are 5 boroughs and lots of little sections/towns in each borough.. ie; soho is part of manhatten as is little italy, tribecca, chelsea, harlem, chinatown, the village etc...

check out http://www.nyc.gov/html/cau/html/major.html
that tells ya all you want to know :)

also http://www.allny.com/

that will give you a heads up... but now you are gonna have to come and visit and see it for yourself... nyc is the type of city that can not be explained... it MUST be experienced!!!

The state of New York is a very large state. The area you are referring to is the downstate area or the New York City metropolitan area.

New York City is made up of 5 boroughs (similar to counties): Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. NYC's population is approximately 8 million people. The metropolitan area of New York City consists of Westchester, Fairfield, and Rockland counties to the North, Nassau and Suffolk (Long Island) counties to the East, and Northern NJ. All together, the population of Metro NYC is approximately 18 million people.

Manhattan, which most people refer to as New York City, is made up a many different neighborhoods, which are pretty well-defined on a map.

The Upper East side is known for its "blue blood", aka old money.

The Upper West Side is more liberal and recently has become more family-oriented.

Soho is known for its shopping and art galleries.

50 years ago, Little Italy was a much larger neighborhood. Now, its been pretty much condensed to Mulberry Street because of the growth of Chinatown.

Midtown, is home to Times Square and the Theater District (Broadway).

Greenwich Village, was formerly a very gay neighborhood but has now become more of a tourist attraction and family oriented.

Chelsea has become the gay neighborhood.

The East Village and Hell's Kitchen or Clinton, once the cheapest places to live in Manhattan below 96th Street, are now very trendy.

Harlem is NYC's center of Black-American culture.

Many other neighborhoods to visit, in Manhattan and all the boroughs. Most are accessible by subway-which is very safe.

If you are planning a trip and need any more info, e-mail me. I'll be glad to help.
