Senator John McCain of Arizona is convening a committee hearing next Tuesday to investigate prohormones and "designer" steroids, focusing particularly on teen use, claims/marketing, and sports doping.
We live in an era when personal liberties are dwindling. Anyone interested in preserving freedom for mature adults in the nutritional supplement context should let Senator McCain know it. Tell him that scheduling prohormones, as some have proposed, would unjustly catapult the supplements into the Controlled Substances Act – bringing the War on Drugs into our health food stores by authorizing the arrest and imprisonment of health-conscious American citizens for unlawfully possessing these products. Tell him that preventing prohormone sales to teenagers can be accomplished without infringing the rights of informed, health-conscious adults. Tell him that cheating athletes should be punished, but non-competing adults should not.
