Seriously. I was hoping it wasn't his baby so he'd have a chance to grow up a bit more before having this kind of responsibility but I have nothing but applause for the fact that he has stepped up in a huge way.

Ceo....I agree with your lol, but at the same time, he's just reacting defensively because lart is constantly on this guy. he's made strides, has a long way to go, but I think it's great that he's making the effort.

this is what i found on google..

1. From 1960 to 1990, the number of children living apart from their biological father rose from 17 percent to 36 percent.

2. In inner cities, one in five children live with their father.
3. Forty percent of children in fatherless homes have not seen their father in at least one year.
4. Fifty percent of children living without their father have never set foot in their father’s home.
5. Sixty-three percent of young people who commit suicide are from fatherless homes.
6. Eighty-five percent of children who exhibit behavior disorders are from fatherless homes.
7. Eighty percent of rapists are from fatherless homes.
8. Seventy-one percent of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes.
9. Seventy-five percent of all adolescent patients in chemical-abuse centers are from fatherless homes.
10. Seventy percent of juveniles in state operated institution come from fatherless homes.
11. Eighty-five percent of youth in prison are from fatherless homes. 12. Seventy percent of teen pregnancies are from fatherless homes.

THAT'S considered "stepping up to the plate"?

Christ, some subsets of this society are pathetic.

yes.

if the choices are
A: sending your kid 5K per month from across the country and never seeing him vs.
B: spending time with him and providing him with the essentials.

B wins everytime.

Time will tell folks. He's in a hard spot and it is easy to fall into the wrong kind of thinking. I could be totally wrong.
He could become a silver millionaire in the future and be married happily for many years while bringing his family to church every Saturday.
Anything is possible!

False dilemma. Your bifurcated argument is fallacious. Both A and B are false; neither is "stepping up to the plate", nor are options ever limited to only A and B.

HTH
