Tanita uses BIA, it measures the amount of water in your body as an electrical current passes through you from foot to foot. It has to do with the conductivity of your cells.

It shouldn't need a different formula for a man or a woman in that case should it?

Sure. Cross-section of your thigh vs. mine, you'll have an entirely different conductivity for the same bf. Probably a pH difference (acidity) too, which also affects conductivity. I don't think they pulled those numbers out of their hat.

If your a man I am sure, my thighs are my trouble area.... or if your a fit woman I am sure as well. It makes sense. I didn't consider it. So considering....... ok, so wouldn't it still be the same formula?

Just to let you know, there have been no independant studies done on Tanita scales, on BIA in a professional setting from hand to foot yes, and its accuracy is competitive with calipers....

Its just such a bummer to get on and see 31% body fat.... I really don't want that to be true.... I have a long way to go, no doubt but I hope not quite THAT far... 31% bf would mean I am obese!
