New Here - ? on 5x5 vs HST

Hey all,

New member here. Been reading the boards for a good year or so and decided I needed to start posting. I love it here.

Quick intro: 5'8", 190 lbs (up from 171 in March)
Don't have measurements yet.
I'd say I am about 15% bf.

Max lifts: Bench 275 (goal: 300, by Sept 14th)
Squat 335 (goal 350)
DL 385 (goal 405)

In March I got serious and started a HST routine that consisted of this every other day:
Squat, Straight leg DL, Inc Bench, Dips, Chins, BB Rows, shrugs, Clean and Press, Side last raises, rear delt flies, db curls, overhead tricep extensions calf raises, and unweighted crunches.

Using this, and eating like a maniac, I gained about about 15 lbs of weight, mostly muscle, and it was great. Started to plateau, so I switched to a modified version doing chest/shoulders/tris one day, and then back, bis, and legs the next, each 2x a week.

Using my current routine, I am gaining alot of strength.

My question is, what would give me the most size gains in the quickest time? HST or 5x5? What are everyone's experiences? I was thinking of giving the 5x5 a go when fall rolls around, unless I hear otherwise.

They're both solid programs w/ good science behind 'em. If you've been focusing on one for a while it'd def. be a good idea to try the other.

Based on what I've read on here, no one has been disappointed by strength gains from 5x5, though some (not many) were not thrilled about size gains.

Personally my stength improved tremendously on my first dual-factor 5x5 run. Size went up too.

sounds like you need to get on the 5x5 program. also a plateua may mean a week off needed. take a week off and start the 5x5. i usually take 1 week off after 8-10wks of training.

One problem I have to deal with is lifting Mon- Thurs. only due to my schedule.
That is why a 2day HST spit worked so well.

Is it possible to do the 5x5 within Mon-Thursday timeframe?
Has anybody done this? I was going to see if it's possible...

And if not, just wait until I go back to school in the fall and do the 5x5 normally.
