new 202lb mr O weight class

chazk

New member
just saw it online think it was flex.

for this year and the future the mr o will have two weight classes

202lbs and under
203lbs and over

i think we will start to see some very solid physics comming onto the mr O stage in the years to come with out the bloat of human growth hormone - somatropin - guts prob guys with bodys like zane, samir, gaspari, labrada
all impressive at around the 200lb mark

that or we will see the invasion of 5ft and under midgets all blown up with human growth hormone - somatropin - guts!

it give the "average" guy a better chance and still look pleasing asthetically..

i use the term average lightly here.

I think it's stupid. The O is for the best of the best, the biggest of the big. The show where the monster come out. One stage, one place, bring your best no matter what. That's what's made the O the show of shows. Now it's going to be just another show. Why not have a natty division:rolleyes:There can, and always will be differences on who was or looked the best, but that's part of the hype. Now they are going to start throwing different classes in there? There is plenty of shows for the little whinny bitches.

LOL

I guess more people would watch ?
I dont know ?

I was watching the 2007 mr O online my wife thought they all looked nasty and refused to watch.
I have a old 1984 mr O dvd and she cant stop watching it..

I mentioned it to a guy at the gym he said what a MrO for small people.
Dude is 5'7 around 240lbs at 15% bf i told him if he dieted down to 5% BF he would weigh in around 202 lbs losing 24lbs of fat and then deyhdrating. Then he started to think it over and said I guess 202 isnt that small.

when you look at a athlete 202 lbs at 10 15% bf dose not seem big in the gym
but 202lbs ripped to shreds on stage is really another story for a guy 5'8 and under

But rember mr olyimpa was never about the freaks the entire time only about the last 12 years have things shifted and only the last 7-8 have things really gotten freaky

if anyone rembers quadsweeps last contest pics he was around 203
I think needsize was around the same weight , both soild ripped mo fo's

Yes, I agree 5' 8" 203 ripped is not small. That's not the issue here. The Olympia, one stage, one place, meet on it and have it out. Now we are going to have classes so the "lil" guy can compete:rolleyes: cause he "looks" pretty. That's like saying, well the Blue Bird girls school has a good football team, they look "pretty" they should get to play in the super bowl too:rolleyes:

Just like your wife said, "they look nasty", that's exactly the response from your "average" spectator. That's the "shock" factor the Olympia brings. That's what makes it the king of shows. Now they are going to "politically correct" it? Bad move imo.

They are just trying to widen the appeal of the show...

I don't think this takes away from the main event... The fans of the big guys will still get what they want to see.. And then people who like the more oldschool look can be happy too.

Like it or not, it certainly can't hurt the show.

If you don't like the lightweights, then refuse to acknowledge that they exist. :)
Just don't pay attention to that part of it.

I remember back when UFC introduced weight classes people were up in arms, but now it is accepted.

It's not that I don't like the lightweights. It changes the whole idea behind the show. The O is the main event. One stage, one place winner take all. Now that's gone.

I think they should just have a waist limit, but this is a step in the right direction. Maybe they will stop caring so much about who's blowing Weider, or who the biggest freak is and give Dexter his well deserved Sandow.

If that's the look the want, no reason they couldn't give Dexter the nod. No reason to change the format of the "O" by adding weight classes.

I didn't mean that the format would help him. He's obviously way above 202 lol. I just mean that hopefully they are going in the direction of a more aesthetically pleasing but still huge physique, which IMO would be Dexter.

That's fine. I'm just saying there is no need to add weight classes to please everybody. Takes away from the "show of shows" format. Bring your best and compete against the best.

I guess when you put it that way I agree. I still stand by the waist limit thing, or something to that effect. Don't get me wrong I think Ronnie has an amazing physique, but for any of these guys to place above Dexter is insane IMO. I think guys like Dexter, Gustavo, and Martinez have the best physiques, even though they are still freaks.

This is good for the sport and will help expend and broaden out for more to enjoy and to help bring more IFBB pro's out to compete. more than half off the men and women who earn their pro card never compete because that really can't with the way tyhe sport is nowadays. In fact one of my best friends is making his pro debut at the 202 and under class in may. He's way amped up to do it. Just think about how many bb'ers earned their pro card and don't even bother with it cause they have no chance. well now they have a great chance to compete and earn potential endrosements and other opportunities.

Ok I do see your point now...

Perhaps what needs to be done is to SEVERELY penalize people for having these idiotic guts??? Leave the weight-classes OUT of it, but award many more points for symmetry?

I dunno anymore man..

Or maybe people need to accept these things go in trends and cycles... And this is the age of the freak.

I cant wiat to seee this,,,should be interesting.

This is very long overdue. Nothing at all wrong with an over 202 champ and a under 202 champ. They both can call themselves Mr O. This certainly adds more opportunity to competitors getting there pro cards. A very postive direction for this sport. The only thing i would change would be 215lbs instead of the 202 lbs. A 215 and under and a 215 and over would be perfect. I'm prolly biased b/c i compete under 202lbs.

I'm against it.
They tried it before (I believe from 1974 - 1979), and gave it up.
The "O" should be about who's the best of the best, regardless of height or weight - IMO.

It'll help make the sport a little more mainstream/accepted. It will piss off the purists for a while I'm sure.

I may be biased by being only 5'5", but this gives me hope. I always wanted to compete but knew I'd never be tall enough to hold the mass the 5'8" and over guys have. I never saw a problem with the under 200 and over 200 Mr. Olympia back in Arnolds day... the big guy still always won the overall :) But at 5'5", I'll probably check in at my first competition at around 180lbs and 4-5% bf... Now I know I couldn't add 45lbs and compete and lose against the taller guys like Lee Priest used to... but I *could* add 10 more pounds, be 190 ripped at 5'5", and that would be huge, I could technically compete in the olympia if I had the genetics :) Either way, I think it'll get more athletes involved, more mainstream-friendly physiques, and that's always good for bodybuilding.

Great idea. They are giving BBers a chance to not just blow out of proportion, but rather work on symmetry.

Good stuff.

I think its a great idea, all they are doing is adding another weight class. It doesn't change the olympia at all, the monsters are still the Kings of the Mr. O!

I think its a great idea to a certain degree, they should add weight classes....but in the end only allow that one freak to be called mr o.. And show there standings, in there wieght classes, then overall standings....so everyone has a shot but the guys who worked hard to become the best of the best still shine.

They did something similiar to this before didn't they? In Pumping Iron, Arnold won the heavy class and Franco won the under 200lb class then, at the end, they showed down against each other for the overall title and Arnold won

sure did

There are some AWESOME physiques in the under 202 lb.

James 'Flex' Lewis, who just won his pro card at the Brits in 2007

Under 90 kg class (198 lbs)

It was a close second to James Llewellin, another great Welsh physique.

James is doing the Arnold Amateur comp this year

More weight does not always equate to a better physique.

These lads look freaking awesome on stage.

I would think both are under 5'7"

I am just over 5'3".

I had heels on when I met Flex at Stars of Tomorrow.

James and I at WABBA Body beautiful extravaganza, I was doing an 'untrained figure' class cause I was FAT :)
