need help with shoulder

New member
Iv been working out on and off my entire life. 4 months ago i started to lift seriously. When i started benching 4 moths ago my max bench was 185 and now its up to 250 but when i start doing 2 or 3 reps of heavier weight like that, my left shoulder kills me. Is it because i increased my bench to fast and my body needs to catch up (has anyone ever heard of that?) or is it just a bad shoulder? I havent had any problems with this shoulder before and my other shoulder that i dislocated in wrestling is fine. if anyone has ideas about my shoulder, has the same problem, or has any ways i can effectively work my chest without bothering my shoulder it would be very helpful. Thanks

i take one week off about every month and a half give or take a week. I only work out each muscle group once a week because im paranoid about over training. The pain is on the outside of my arm right on the top corner where you can feel your bone the corner of your shoulder. The pain started to get alot worse when i started doing incline benching in the beginning of the year.

If its on top where your clavicle meets your shoulderblade, it very well may be a seperated shoulder. You strained the ligaments holding those 2 bones together. An x-ray, where you hold weight in with that arm, will show if you have one. I suffered one in a car accident a long time ago.

Bone on the corner is probably the Acromion Process. The Posterior Deltoid attaches there, and some middle delt fibers. If you are talking more on the arm (joint area) then I would assume rotator cuff weakness ie. Supraspinatous, Infraspinatous, or teres minor. I noticed my instability from my left shoulder after I started lifting heavier. You may need to make sure you are working all muscles in the shoulder region to retain stability. A lot of people forget to do reverse upper body movements to strengthen and target the supra, infra, and Tminor and do to many pushing movements to strengthen the pecs. Also, another cause could be impinging the supraspinatous tendon under the acromion process. Are your arms bent laterally at 90 when you press up or are your bringing your elbows above 90 degrees? Are you rotating your shoulders to get the weight up? Does it hurt while you are doing the exercise or later? If it's happening during then I would think it is either wrong form, or shoulder inequality. If the pain happens later on it could be shoulder weakness on that side. Have someone spot your form. Another suggestion maybe you could try doing your incline press followed by bent over rows.
Then again without you pointing to the 'bone' I'm not sure exactly which spot.
