My grandson wants to lift. He is 5'8" and approx 180 pounds. He has no idea what he wants. I am thinking of getting him to start Golds Gym xrs 30. :

112 lb. Vinyl Weight Stack:
  • 112 lbs. of weight
  • 280 lbs. of resistance
  • Durable, built to last
He has no one to spot for him with free weights. He is a beginner.
Any input would be very appreciative,
Thanks

^thats not a membership, he's reffering to a piece of equipment i believe...
...and honestly, money would be better spent on a pullup bar that fits in a doorway, maybe a heavy punching bag (for cardio) and some dumbell, which can all be used safely without a spotter...
machines like that dont give the entire body a proper workout, and usually end up becoming a place where you hang your dirty clothes....

Have someone teach him some freeweight exercises. Like moya says it will usually become a place to hang your dirty clothes if its one of those all in one type machines

yeah i saw golds gym and didn't pay attention to the rest. even in that case I don't see why his son isn't on the weightlifting team or the football team... working out with his peers and learning new strategies and not at home.
