My youngest son who is 8. Planted his American Flag next to a fire hydrant after he heard about all the heroic emergency personnel who lost their lives.

He came in to tell me and I then took this pic.

Wanted to share it with all.

I have found myself at a great lose fo words these past days and once again this picture has done that.

Thanks

You are a good father for raising your son to be such a fine young man, do me a favor and shake his hand for me, and tell him that I said thank you.

What's up Rex ah . . . ??? Sorry say that again? You want to attach an avatar under your name?

I like your avatar. Ya know where it says insert avatar on the option page? I was wondering if you could tell me what you put there, so I could use it too.

That's weird. It's a close up of an American flag. I can see it, can anyone else.

Thanks for letting me know Rex.

One word - awesome.

My son - 6 years old - still can't understand "why" it happened. Then again, neither can I.

Thanks for sharing that pic.

you may well be right...they like stuff like that...and at least there's someone alive in the picture :(

(no offense intended by that comment...)

Great pic!

What a good kid-- I have an 8 year old daughter who is asking so many questions, its so hard to know what to say without scareing her too much--- you must be doing a good job.

Personally I don't think information 'hurts' children (I mean, when they ask...don't shove it down their throat, if they aren't asking, of course... :( )

I think it's not the information...it's if they receive a message that causes them to be afraid...so I think addressing their fears is key, if they have any. Like, explain all the precautions being taken to keep you safe where you live. Stuff like that. They need to feel safe...just don't leave them where information has made them feel unsafe, without addressing those fears.

And if they are sad then validate that and let them be sad but again don't let them be afraid of things that an eight year old should not be being afraid of...as far as it's possible with you. You kinda have to get into their mind and think "what would be bothering me most?" and address that. It could be some real weird or simple thing. It's likely to be they are afraid that you'll go to work and not come home again...something like that...

Whatever...just thoughts...I don't know you or your child or where you live or whether you know anyone who died :( so - no offense intended...

Perfect!!! That is a wordless picture. It hits home!!!
Shake your sons hand for me. I know you are proud.

Both my boys are asking questions about this and I'm not sugar-coating any o fit. They know who Bin Laden is, they know why he did it, and they also know that war is a distinct possibility.

I asked them why they wanted to know so much and both responded "because we want to know as much as possible"

Great picture. You are rightfully proud. My 8 year old daughter is asking many questions. I have tried to explain to her what has happened and more dificult, why. She has seen me cry. Something she has only seen a couple of times in her life. It scares her. You have a brave son.
