You look awesome! Great smile too! I've done some bb competition and I'm seeing LOTS of figure contests gettign included in traditional body building shows. Obviously figure comps are filling a gap that is missing in women's competition - somewhere between shredded, ripped muscle chicks and the lean, flying splits of the fitness chicks. Can you educate me as to what are the things they judge figure contests on and how do you think you measured up on these?

How did you place?

~ sassy

Thanks everyone!

Sassy,

Beleive it or not, but I DID NOT place. The girl on the end won and the girl next to her placed 2nd. I was told that I was too muscular and my legs overpowered my physique. Now, I'm kind of skeptical on these comps. I start dieting Aug 1. for a BB show in Nov. Since I didn't do too well, I thought maybe I'd give BB a try and maybe cross over into the figure, since their will be one @ the same show.

Clad,

I couldn't even walk in those. They were 4" heels. I'm already 5"7.

I think you should of at least placed......
Can we see a back view? :kitty:

You do look thick in the legs for a figure comp. Maybe BB would fit your physique better. Also, how were your abs the suit you cjose covered your midsection I have judged a few figure comps and the woman that shows a tight midsection always places higher, The woman at the end who won wore a suit that partialy revealed tight abs.

. I was told that I was too muscular and my legs overpowered my physique

CP - that sucks! That's the problem with women's competition, even more so with this additional competitive category. Is it clear what they are looking for??? Figure looks to me like the fitness w/o the flying splits. If you have any shape to you, its either bb or nuthin. And bb still gets weird because its not clear it they want hard and big or soft and not as big or what??

Well, if you are going into bb, what is your bf? weight? What do you want to compete at?

I'm also 5'7". Competed naturally at 133 lb, 8-9% bf. There it is to your advantage to have strong legs, but you still have to watch that symmetry while avoiding the big butt thing. I hope you keep us up to date on your progress in this comp!

I think in real life you look fabulous. But, in the comp, you do have very developed legs without a lot of definition (but maybe that;'s the pic).

Your suit is a wonderful color, but it's not as flattering to you as it could be. I think the solid mid-riff area isn't attractive and mades your waist look a little thick. It's better to break up that are with some skin (and show off your abs).

You could look good in dark blue, as well.

But your shoulders and chest are look lovely and feminine--hair up is a good idea, I think, but I'm not up on show fashions.

i thought that's what figure was? fitness without the routine?? am i wrong?

i think you look great and i think you should have been placed over those girl cause you look way better,

Keep up the hard work :) :)

Thanks again everyone.

Reason for the one piece was chosen by the judges. All the girls them except the girl on the end. I don't have 2 piece pics. I can't figure out how to scan them to post them, but when I do, I'll put them up.

Sassy, I plan on competing in BB hopefully @ 130-135, it's really hard to slim down my legs even with high reps. My BF is ? I have yet to find a gym that does the test.

Keiko, I'll keep that color in mind. My 2 piece for this comp was a teal.

Again, I'm going to try to scan my other pics to I can post them.

CP,

you look great.....Those legs are awsome. You should do well in BB, just might have to get a little more upper body size to match the legs.....(funny...fitness judges telling you to lose the legs.....BB judges will tell you to increase the upper body! LOL)

Good Luck

CP -

The only thing that got my body tight for my comp was diet & cardio - lots of cardio - 4x/week, 45 min at 6 am (OMG...:bawling: ) That, of course, w/ training and additional cardio after training. But the AM cardio is what made the diff for me. It is so hard to get the cuts on legs - esp for women. My legs are more developed now, but still, the estrogen-directed fat deposits are a bitch. Here is what I looked like at my comp (mind you, my first show ever, so not as big as I am now and not as tight as I would like - but shows I got the upper body tight , but ass & thighs just weren't cooperating). It sucks when you have to go against the girls who don't have bigger legs, but can lean out better. So many of the local shows I've seen had women who didn't particularly have great muscle size or development, but were lean as shit. They usually won. :bawling:

Anyway - definitely get your body fat tested. And maybe find a trainer or someone who can help you get your body balanced between upper & lower - may mean sacrificing a little on the bottom and building more on the top to get the symmetry. Work on widening your back and narrowing your waist to help match your legs.

SASSY,

I WAS DOING 90 MIN A DAY 2 DAYS OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS TOO MUCH. AUG. 1 I START DIETING AND I'M GONA TRY BEVERLY INTERN'L PRODUCTS W/A DIET THAT CONFIGURED FOR ME.

AS FOR MY UPPER BODY, I DON'T WANT TOO GET TOO BIG. MY WAIST IS MY ADVANTAGE BECAUSE WHEN I DO SIDE SHOTS, IT DISAPPEARS. I WAS TOLD THAT WITH A DIET, MY LEGS WILL LEAN OUT & MATCH MY UPPER BODY.
THAT'S WHY I'M GIVING MYSELF 14 WEEKS.

YOU LOOK GOOD ALSO!

ONCE I FIGURE OUT MY SCANNER I'LL POST SOME OTHER SHOTS.

CP -

Sounds like a plan! I'd love to hear about your Bev Int'l experience! My "diet" right now is holistic and kinda low protein - its good to take a break from the bb diet every now and then.

Sounds like you got the cardio thing down! Cardio is always a toss up because it leans you out, but can be catabolic too. When you go to work on your upper body, work on the width and not so much the thickness. I agree - if you are competing in a natural show, beefiness just stinks of AS. You just want the nice V look. My back is one of my best assets so that wasnt' much of an issue for me - but the damn butt & thighs part..... now that's a challenge....

Looking forward to your pix!

Sassy ..Need to work on the ham/glute tie in.

Heavy dead lifts, lots of lunges, to get that nice ham/quad tie in.
Legs need to be alot harder, and very cut, to take it to the next level.
Back looks good, just need to do more pull-ups to widen it a bit.

You got to be kidding me !!! The two on the end look like there starving to death !!! Can we say rigged. You look gorgeous. :)

I see you, babygirl, and all I can think is I want some cherrypie!!! I like my women like yo... at least from now on:p

The girls that entered didn't even look like lifted a weight. Their was another girl that was muscular & she didn't even place.

I was hoping to get leaner but the promoter said not too get too lean becauz that's not what they were looking for. Too me the judges had no clue, that's exactly what they said too.

My leg workout consist of walking lunges, squats, hack squats, single leg leg presses, extensions, Stiff leg deadlift, leg curls and single leg curls. Not to mention the butt blaster.

No matter what I do, I can not get these legs defined.

Thanks for directing me to where you pic is. I don't know too much about professional competitions but I do know what I like. Those 2 girls on the end that won we very skinny and unattractive to me. And that whole thing the promoter said just didn't make sense because that's exactly what the judges liked...go figure. Your legs do look like they need more definition for sure. I know this might sound kinda basic but I know what works for me when it comes close to summer. I just do very high reps with lighter weights, that really helps me get cut up, along with a lower fat diet and cardio 2-3 times a week, sometimes more. Depending on what you want to do I'd either bulk up my top half or reduce the size of your lower half to be more propotionate. One thing is for sure though, if I saw you on the street I'd probably smash up my bike, haha.

CP,

I'm a leg man, so you would have gotten my vote in a heart beat had I been a judge. You looked great from what I can tell...hard to see the upper body, but the legs are great!!!

Not sure what those judges were going for..I know this was supposed to be a fitness/physique comp, but IMO, those girls on the end were a bit skinny for this type of comp.

Was it just a local show, or a national comp? What kind of elements did they have in it? Maybe your routines (if they had them) needed work or something.

Either way, you looked great. Don't get discouraged. I'm sure with each other comp, the judges look for different things. YOu might be the "prototype" at the next one, who knows....

OK - I finally saw a figure show tonite. There were like 15 girls in each category. I also noticed a few girls I competed in bb against last year. I was trying to see what the judges were looking for. All the girls had great quads. They were lean, but only a handful were really lean like you see the national level fitness girls. The girls who won were the leanest and were able to pull out a good rear lat spread and also had tight butts w/o overpowering legs. Basically the cute little ones who had the symmetry and extremely lean.

I think I prefer women's natural bb comp - I don't really understand the whole thing because the only thing they do is go up on stage and do the symmetry / quarter turns w/ a 2 piece & a 1 piece suit. One guy told me this is what fitness girls can do when they get hurt, or bb girls if they can lean down and drop some of the muscle.

Its interesting because its so new, many of the girls didnt' really know how to pose well and many didn't have the tans and stuff done very well. I think its a great option other than fitness & bb, but I think many of them just didn't lean out enough. Very strange to me.. but then I am into bb.

Anyone else have a comment on figure comps? Maybe next year it will be more clear to all involved what the judges are looking for....

Plan for 2 day-Bad judges...RADAR will have to kick some a** and straighing up things......if i had been a judge you would have won hands down...you look Great GAL!!!!! RADAR

I looked at this again, and I think that you'd do better in BB. Symmetry isn't just side to side--it's also top and bottom. YOUr top and bottom halves have to be in proportion. And in all fairness, Ula, the winner, is very well-proportioned and that's what wins.

ANd, BB is posing, but figure--you're in motion, and your legs would throw you off that way.

Lift heavy and go for BB.

looking great, but it's hard to say how you can improve with that one pic, maybe you can post more. that said, you do look hard and sexy.

Sassy,

You said the girls posed at the comp you were at?

We did that at the morning show and one of the judges came back and she told us NOT to pose. Just stand their relaxed. Don't spread you arms out either, this isn't BB, but I wanted to tell her than why the hell do the fitness girls do it then. ARRRR!

Do you have any pics from the show?

I started dieting today. The show has been set for Dec. 22 insted of Nov. 10.

Guiness, the show was a state show. National qualifier.

CP -- I may have said "posed"--- they really just did quarter turns. Funny thing was they were all doing that sort of side facing pose instead of a front pose so when the MC would call for a "turn to the right" it screwed them all up because they were already facing to the right! Except the former bb'ers that is -- I figured that out when I realized the only ones really doing a "front" position were the girls I competed against last year in bb.

I still think its really unclear what exactly "figure" is -- I talked to my old trainer that night and he said that he had one girl ask him to train her for figure and he couldn't because he doesn't know what is the goal.

I think its a big fat lie that they say they dont' want you too lean or too muscular - they want a fitness chick w/o the fitness. Plus the whole hair & makeup thing. Its like Miss America who went to the gym.

Good luck w/ that bb comp CP -- you definitely have great legs!

"More isn´t always better....go for intensity, not volume."

I agree with this one here......when working out, it's not "How long" you stay in the gym, but what you get accomplished in a set period of time. when on your cardio days:

"The most effective type of cardiovascular exercise is known as "High Intensity Interval Training" (HIIT). This involves a combination of aerobic exercise, and higher intensity "wind sprints." There are several variations of HIIT, but all involve alternating between moderate and high intensity for intervals anywhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes each. Start by warming up for 2-3 minutes. Following your warmup, you move to a moderate level of intensity. The majority of your energy here is coming from aerobic metabolism (burning glycogen and fat using oxygen). Try to recruit as much muscle activity as possible from your arms, legs, back and buttocks. After your wind sprint, you drop back down to a moderate level of intensity and do it again

Can I do this on any piece of cardio? I can't run so that's out. How about the eliptical? I like to vary my cardio equipment.

On most any cardio equipment you can change at least the resistance, and often the angle. Just keep varying those go for thru-the-roof intensity fo rthe short periods. Just dont' fall off!

One girl (former bb) does the most creative and intense cardio sessions I"ve ever seen on the Step Mill. She goes along at a fairly reasonable pace, but then changes out where she will step sideways for a while, around in circles, do side hi kicks or back kicks. Amazing and incredible workout! For flexibility, intensity, endurance, etc. Pounds quads, glutes, hams!

"Can I do this on any piece of cardio? I can't run so that's out. How about the eliptical? I like to vary my cardio equipment."

Of course you can do this type of cardiovascular exercise on any machine. Lately, I've applied this to the tredmill. I'll walk for 3 minutes (speed set at 4.0) as my warmup. Then as I hit my 4th minute, I jump up to speed level 5.....you can also set the incline for more resistance. I do this until I'm at my 7th minute (speed level 8), at which time I'm at a really fast pace (my turnover). As I reach the 8th minute I drop back down to 5 (light jog for me) and start over. I do this for 20 minutes. That's it. I don't worry about anymore. Monitor what you burn w/in the first 10 minutes. After you finish your 20 minutes, don't move to your next meal for another hour. What you burn w/in the first 10 minutes your body will continue to burn for another 60. I used to do the HIIT cycle on the Eliptical Trainer, but I switched it up to give some variety to my training......

your pics

cheri pie...you look absolutely fantastic!!! i looked at your pic and everything looks perfect...your skin, hair, face, coloring...are to die for.......your legs and calves are out of this world....your chest is really pretty....god girl you have it all!!! just keep up the good work!
