I'm eight weeks out from my first comp (12 weeks out from the comp that REALLY matters), and as some of you know, I'm trying to come in at least 5 lbs. lighter for my May show than I was in Germany at the Worlds (based on judges' feedback), and potentially 8 lbs. ligher for the NABBA Worlds in June. I'm playing around with a few things diet-wise, but I also decided to try an experiment with my cardio, and only do HIIT cardio for this entire diet cycle. My cardio will include 100 and 200 meter sprints and 20 minute HIIT sessions on my eliptical trainer.
I'm doing this for a couple reasons: 1) I really don't like steady state cardio. 2) I'm starting a very large project on Friday which will seriously limit my time outside of work - and I like to sleep. 3) I have read very little (outside of anecdotal evidence) that justifies steady state cardio is less catabolic than short bouts of intense cardio. If anything, there is more evidence interval training is less catabolic and keeps your metabolism stoked for longer periods than slow steady state cardio.
I'm just starting to add cardio back in to my training regimen, so I will keep you guys updated with my results.
