Intermittent fasting is the fucking shit rob!

I'm on my third consecutive day and today was my first time training on a fast day. I did eat a meal a few hours preworkout because I needed to break my fast, but my workout was intense as fuck.

I'd typically avoid training until I've ate three or four meals in fear of my performance suffering. I was purdy fucking surprised by todays workout. I'm looking forward to hitting a fasted workout Saturday midmorning and seeing what that's all about.

I'm following leangains approach of 16/8 and I'll eat higher carbs on my training days.

The original plan was to try this a few times per week, but I wanna do this everyday now lol

I did the lean gains women's version of IF...so not quite as long a fast and trained fasted quite a few times. I still do if I'm training in the morning. If I didn't psych myself out by thinking "oh this will suck cause I haven't eaten" ...I actually performed just as well. If you can get your head around it, it's pretty good! :)

WTF happened to eat like hell and bang big iron

That made me fat bro

Summer's cumming and I have to be peeled for the young lassies at the beach.

Plus it's convienient as fuck bro. Do you know how hard it is to slam chicken tits and sweet taterz while driving a commercial vehicle? lol

And 1000+ kcal meals are awesome :D it's like the anti-diet diet.

Awesome!

Did you enjoy the change of pace from 5-6 small meals daily to three hearty meals? Did you achieve the results you were after?

I tried it once before and psyched myself out about not eating. I had a constant fear of shriveling up lol

Truthfully I'm not really hungry during the fast up until the hour or so before I break it. Its my mind playing tricks on me :D

It took me a few weeks to build up to the fasting part...I did a 14 hour fast/ 10 hour eating period. I'm used to it now...hard to go back.

Did it work? I really blew it over Nov/December so I'm no where near where I want to be but I'm doing the EF contest and using the IF protocol so we'll see in 12 weeks!! ;)

I do like the convenience of it...makes life much more simple, especially for work!

It really is a mind shift...challenges a lot of the beliefs we all "grew up" with!!

Glad you gave it another shot. I wouldnt eat a meal prior to workout...as long as you get to the gym before 1-2pm Id fast the whole way, but take some Xtend an hour before then another serving during workout.

And yeah, after my first day I went all in and did 7 days per week. I cant see doing any other way now.

Yes, 1200 calorie meals post workout is the fucking shit.

How many cals you getting per day?

Keep it up Roxy. Im going on almost 5 months now. My weight has dropped maybe 2-3 pounds but Ive lost more than an inch off my waist and my squats up about 45 pounds...my whole body comp has changed, and I was already below 10% bf.

Wow..that's pretty amazing! Those are the types of results I hear often..the body recomp, especially when your sub 10, which is always tougher to achieve. Impressive!!

P.S. I love Xtend! No one sells it up here...always have to order it.

Xtend is really the only sup thats out there thats worth even considering. Gracias to SouthernLord for turning me onto it about a year ago.

I only get watermelon. Usps tracking says I have another order arriving tomorrow. :)

really bro? it didn't do much at all for me.
what type of diet are you on now?
what is this fasting workout?
share the wealth!!!!

you'll be getting a pm from me about it soon.

I do pretty strict paleo, but Ill eat some oats pwo.

Google intermittent fasting and check out leangains.com. You wont regret it.

Nutshell: eat all your calories in 2-3 big meals between 12-8pm after fasting for 16 hours.

does it rival carb cycling? is it good if you want to drop under 10% bodyfat from around 18?

I know paleo itself is dope. looks like they combine paleo with certain timing methods for greater dopeness.

The past few days I've been between 2500-3000 kcal. I still have to fine tune this though. I'd like to get around 2500 on off days and 3000 on training days.

Most days i would have to extend the fast in order to train fasted because of work. Then I run into issues with getting the rest of my kcals in before bed.

Why are all you nukkas using penis enlargement supps in your workouts. Well it's self explanatory for 75 but anyways this thread is geigh but SL is my boy so I support him in whatever he does SL I hope my comments have no bearing on your promise of rubbing my taint with your beard. :)

Lol

Xtend not extenze haha

It's a bcaa supplement. I acuially like AEN Intrabolic or SizeOn Precontest better than Xtend. Xtend is good shit but a bit too sweet for me. The watermelon is purdy dope though

IF > all other methods.

And yes, youll drop bodyfat like a motherfucker. Check out the results on the leangains site.

lol @ all of us suckers eating 6-8 meals a day over the last 10 years.

From now on I'm going to be sure to utilize methods backed by science as opposed to what people regurgitate on message boards and magazines.

Ya I've been at 2,200 on off days and 2,700 on training days. Ive gotten back to a 3x5 routine so I may need to up the cals a bit more on training days, but Id prefer not to.

Are those two things similar to the Xtend? A BCAA product or something like that? I'm always looking for something similar that I don't have to pay shipping and customs on.

So explain this shit to me 75, you are maintaing weight @ 2,200 cals a day?

Are those two things similar to the Xtend? A BCAA product or something like that? I'm always looking for something similar that I don't have to pay shipping and customs on.

Theyre both bcaa + hydrolyzed whey

The Intrabolic also has beta alanine and the sizeon has creatine. That's the real difference between the two. Both are slightly higher in kcal than Xtend but its negligible. I doubt either product is much over 50 kcal.

Maybe I'll have to give sizeon a try.

Seeing as how it has creatine, do you take it every day or only on workout days?

I only take it on workout days. I haven't cycled off creatine in a looooong time so I'm pretty much saturated.

Make sure you get the precontest SizeOn. It only has like 3g of cho versus 50g with the max performance.

Man I was just thinking about those this past weekend. Been about 9 months since I've had one. Maybe I'll make one this weekend. :p

SL, did you get my PM.

what is a kcal guys?

I'm going to email that Martin guy who developed leangains and see if he'll give me some insight. i just friended him on facebook.

how exactly do you learn the paleo diet? will just getting the cookbook teach me it?

How many "Rest Days" are you bros using per week, and would a 5x5 work instead of the starting strength method?

Yesterday I fasted for 16 hours and ate 2 meals for the 8 hour period.
One was 1.3lbs of ground beef, and 3 cups of brocolli

My second meal was an eggplant and 3 8oz chicken breasts....

is that even close to near where your meals are going now?

and i read most all of martin's sight, but what i don't get is if you binge eat, doesn't your stomach stretch out and make it harder for you to get abs?

If not, whats the scientific reason behind it?

No, you'd need to eat more.

FYI, Martin isnt responding to emails sent after 8/1/10 I think...his backlog and request for consultations is that massive.

Paleo = no grains, dairy, or anything unnatural. If you google Paleo youll see a shitload of pages detailing the lifestyle, recipes, etc.

Today, for instance, my meals are looking like:

1.5 lbs grass fed beef, 3/4 cup of quick rolled oats*, 3 eggs (that was my pwo meal and contained 1,400 kcal (calories), 128g protein, and 44g carb).

My next two meals will consist of maybe .75lb beef with 13oz of broccoli. Each meal will be between 500-700 calories, bringing my total kcal for the day to maybe 2500-2700, 250g protein, 70g carb, and maybe 110g fat.

Im just doing ripptoes 3x5 for the time being...I dont think you'd need anything more than that. Depending on how your body reacts to the workouts, adjust your calories up or down.

*I only eat oats pwo...non workout days will replace that with more broccoli or maybe an apple.

75 is this banana wrapped with meat your way of saying you want a penis in your mouth?

No, you'd need to eat more.

Also, keep in mind you dont HAVE to do paleo, its just what I choose to do and have been doing for more than a year or two. Martin, for instance, eats grains every day. Youll probably find a lot of people who do IF also follow paleo simply because IF happens to be popular in paleo/fitness circles (eg crossfit).

Isn't it bro?

alright, good shit bro. thanks.

so my last question for you, is if your a cheap college kid who doesn't want to spend a ton of money on grass fed beef, how much beef should i eat?

and won't it clog the hell out of my arteries or is that just a myth?

eating 1lbs + per day i'm talking about.

and 75th, martin responds to questions on his facebook page daily.

Buy a $35 slow cooker. Spend $15 on a 10lb pork shoulder. Add sea salt and cook for 24 hours. Thats 4 days worth of pork right there.

Solid advice for you here Iggs

75th is the man on this subject around here. I could half ass answer your PM since I'm still basically learning my way with this.

Today was a training day. Here's an example of what I've had and am having to conclude my grazing period.....

Pre workout - 8oz chicken boobs and 8oz sweet taters

Post workout (about to eat it now) - 16oz chicken mammary, 2 cups brown rice, 2tbsp sweet baby rays BBQ sauce, a banana in honor of 75th, and a cup of skinny cow strawberry cheesecake ice cream.

Third meal - 12oz of lean ground beef with peppers, onions, and mushrooms, a shit ton of brocolli, and a cup of greek yogurt with blueberries.

Rough estimation is 250g prot, 220g cho, 30g fat, and 2500 kcal. This is fine with me since I'm trying to cut. This is great considering those meals really don't look like "diet" meals. I will go to bed extremely full. Awesomeness

Even more awesomer is my local grocers sale tomorrow includes boneless chuck roast buy one get one free. Gonna throw one of them fuckers in the crotch pot with some taters, onions, and a packet of french onion soup mix. I'll be eating that twice a day for a while :D

Fuck that bbq sauce and ice cream sounds good.

I gotta start working more of that shit in.

Fuck yeah. I'll add it pwo since it's fat free. It helps to up my cho intake. I can only handle so many complex carbs in one sitting.

The skinny cow ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, fudgesicles, etc are all very low fat. Like 1-2g per serving. The talenti sorbet is good shit too. It's zero fat. The blood orange flavor is my shizzle lol

Im just scared to death of letting my carbs exceed 100g lol.

Maybe Ill try it for a week and keep an eye on my measurements.

I'm striving for no more than 100g of cho on off days. I'll eventually lower it on training days too once I feel this all out. I still have a lot to learn here.

i'm still feeling it out too SL. we should both make logs in the weightlifting section.
im getting an mri on my knee tomorrow. hopefully it comes back fine.

The great thing about it is that he's sure to back up all of his claims with multiple studies, as opposed to what he calls "broscience" (eg people regurgitating shit other people on message boards say).

That and the fact that, in my experience, it works better than anything else out there.

I heard bros on EF say its awesome and shit.

lol @ broscience. Lots of it out there.

He's definitely had a lot of big names in nutrition weigh in on his board and support the IF methods.

I've seen him argue with others though on different boards and the message gets lost in name calling and stupid stuff. He must take some heat for the whole IF way because he sure seems to gets mad quick when people challenge him. ;)

Links to arguments?

Id like to read those.

I'll look for them. It'll take me awhile since I'm sneaking on at work but I'll get back to you...there was one about a month ago I read as it played out that was quite entertaining. :)

75th rob, on my rest days is it wrong for me to have some oats/yams and all natural peanut butter in my first meal?

also, you and SL said you guys did it for 7 days in a row?
does that mean you did a fasted workout for 7 days straight?

I haven't done a fasted work out yet. Not that I'm not down to try it out. It just doesn't fit my schedule.

I'm gonna try to hit upper body fasted on saturday.

did you mean that you only followed the diet for 7 days?
what's your lifting split like now SL? are you doing a starting strength type one?

I do the fasting 7 days a week. Some people do it 2 days a week, 3 days, etc. I prefer every day.

I train fasted 3 times a week (eg all my 3 workouts of the week). Work out at about 10am and eat by 11:30am after fasting from 7:30pm the night before.

And I only mentioned starting strength because you mentioned youre coming back after a layoff.

I was doing my crossfit for a while, but wanted to see what my numbers would look like if I went with a 3x5 routine.

did you mean that you only followed the diet for 7 days?

I haven't been doing this a week yet. I'm fugging hooked though. The first day I planned to do IF a few times per week. I'm pretty sure I'll eat like this everyday. For a while at least. It's so convenient and I'm not even getting hungry during my fast.

I train an upper/lower split. Three times per week. Maybe four times but work is crazy and I'm putting in a lot of hours.

Day 1
Deads
Walking lunges
Abs

Day 2
Standing press
Chins
Dips
Rear delts

Day 3
Squat
Split squats
Back extensions
Abs

Day 4
Incline press
CGBP
DB rows
Chins
Maybe a set or two of curls and extensions

I'm in and out in under an hour. Usually around 45 minutes. When training three days a week I rotate through the days. I'm also running sprints, hill sprints, sled sprints, etc two times per week with an odd day of LISS thrown in. I probably should start throwing in a WOD every once in a while to mix it up. When it warms up I'll add some early morning fasted LISS.

I dont see joose having more or less of an impact than it usually does.

fucK that he should fast for eternity refusing water and all medical attention. After a couple of months he'd be fucking ripped

I dont see joose having more or less of an impact than it usually does.

Wouldnt you have to not fast in order to frequently feed the joos infused muscles? Also to scale up macros and calories?

No...you get all the calories you normally do in any given day...just between a specific 8 hour window.

I just sat down for lunch.

16oz of pulled pork, a shit ton of green beans, and a big bowl of coleslaw.

The waiter said he's only seen one person finish the whole meal lol

You work out this morning?

No. I go to work at 0400. The gym opens at 0430. I'm gaining to do some sled work this afternoon.

my god. it's my third day and i'm feeling so damn energized. IF is the shit.....

My friends think i'm roidin' since I already look noticeably leaner. lol!!!!

Your leanness is probably a bunch of water flushing itself out, but if you stick with it you will definitely notice some significant fat loss the first month provided your diet is in check.

And yeah, the energy is something else. Once you get through the 1-2 hours of thinking "shit, Im hungry" you start feeling awesome.

correct. maybe it's just a psychological thing, but I feel awesome.
do you drink a ton of water during your fasting period?

Yup. You can also drink tea, coffee, or diet soda if you wish.

But yeah, Im all about the ice water.

It's been four hours since I ate that monster meal. I'm so fucking full still it's not funny. I just slammed three scoops of C&C myofusion and had an apple for my second meal. No way was I going to eat any more meat. I'll prolly have eggs for dinner.

About to sit down with my 6oz pork, can of tuna, 4 eggs and 2 whites with a nice honeycrisp apple myself.

FYI if you want something awesome, make a red wine reduction with a bottle of cab, beef broth, chicken broth, garlic, and some rosemary and splash it on your scrambled eggs.

Tastes like prime rib, I shit you not.

jesus christopher that sounds awesome

you guys are getting me rock hard thinking about food.....

this is ugly. lol.

what's the apple for post workout? to spike insulin????

im about to smash 1 cup of oats with cocoa and two scoops of anpb, 16oz of tilapia and 3 cups of brocolli for breakfast at 3:50pm.
lololol

Nah I didnt work out today. Eating an apple just because I feel like something sweet, and I dont feel like eating more broccoli this meal.

PWO I have 3/4 cup worth of oats with my protein.

is it better to not eat oats at all on rest days?

on workout days are oats postworkout superior to oats preworkout?

I dont eat oats or any other grains unless its PWO as oats/grains arent paleo. I eat them pwo because I see the benefits for that specific meal. All of my other meals, including every meal on non workout days, include a protein and only veggies or occasionally some fruit (which is why my daily carb intake never really exceeds 60-75g).

My cho intake is purdy frickin low today. I had about a tbsp of sweet bbq sauce on my pulled pork (<20g) and the cho from the shake and apple (~40g). That's all I'll have today. The next meal will be eggs and asparagus. My fat intake is prolly over 100g though lol

And while you're having brr ban my ass could you have him fix all the glitches in the forum? Thanks bro!

I trained fasted today.

Four sets of front squats and four sets of DB rdl plus 30 minutes of LISS

Energy wasn't an issue, but my front squat numbers were down.

I just ate my pwo meal. A pound of chicken, a pound of sweet taterz, and two cups of skinny cow ice cream. I have a roast in the crotchpot for later. Beef and veggies from here on out.
