My day is teh suk

I was hoping to get to the equivalent of the DMV today and get closer to having my scooter license (that sounds way cool) - but last night my rental scooter (also way cool) started dying while going up hills or over 20kmph.
I traded it in this morning for another one - then got phone calls from work saying that I had to get in fast because one of the servers was down.
Sure enough it was very much down - once of the SCSI drives was down so hard that... well, it is totally toast.
Fortunately we weren't backing up that server at all - I was really smart to have trusted our backup setup and not taken the time to go through it all to make sure.
But it isn't too bad since that server did very little and wasn't storing important stuff - so we dodged a bullet.
Now I have to rebuild that which will take all day and then get the software that needs on it - which happens to be the scanning software for a Xerox printer that sucks huge hairy ass - very half-ass product.

When I popped out to grab some lunch, I ran into a guy that was pissed off that I hadn't gotten back in touch with him about a job reference (I wanted to get a job doing analysis at a hedge fund and he was going to refer me) - I apologized for screwing that up and he was nice about it. Explained I had been busy starting my own thing.

I have like 8 phone calls I need to make and I'm going to be standing in a makeshift server closet crammed next to a copier until what may possibly be late this evening.

This is very much teh suk. I hate IT.

wait, you need a special license to drive a scooter? is it the one that goes all the way up to 65 mph?

I don't live in the States. The scooter I own is a Vespa ET4 125cc and I think it can do over 65mph. I can't legally get insurance for it without a license, and if I'm caught driving without insurance, it is a $1000 fine and I think they suspend me from getting a license for a year.

Here though, in order to drive any scooter, you need to have a license. The rental ones are only 50cc, so it is going pretty fast for it if you can get to 65kmph.

You might wanna move this to the pictures of fonz forum now.

NDN, At least the weather`s nice.

Very true - for the brief bit I was riding in this morning, and the 1 minute I was just outside to go next door and grab some lunch, it seemed very nice.
They say it might get under 80 pretty soon.

The worst part of this is the boredom of watching the server being so slow. It is a Dell PowerEdge 1300 - single PII 400 with 256MB RAM. My laptop is faster than this thing.
It is out secondary domain controller.

Our primary controller isn't that much better, and with the added load on it now that it is dealing with more people is making it reboot.

I hate IT.

On the good side, I think this will help me drive home the point that we need some new hardware. Going to shoot for something dual processor with at least a gig of RAM - ideally two.
Then can go up to Win2K3 and Exchange 2K3.

sounds pretty neat, I used to have one when I was a kid that could only go 35 mph. I'd always drive it around my neighborhood until some kids started making fun of me. Thats when I broke out the pink tricycle, now whos the loser?

The Vespa is a great bike. There are a lot of them here.

Pretty much everyone here - especially the men - drives a scooter. The roads are small and the cars cost 2X as much as they do in the States. You are only allowed one car per household, and usually the woman gets that.

If the weather is nice, scooters are a fantastic way to get around - wouldn't want to do it in the States though - maybe in SF, but that is about it.

One good point of my day is that I'm short in DCGN and COR. No real money, just a game scenerio.

I wonder what the largest engine scooter is? A true scooter has small wheels - then there are the variations on a theme that have different names - look like scooters, but have larger wheels.

The Vespa weighs just about 300 lbs with fuel in it. The rental scooter must weigh under 100 - it is so easy to toss around.
Great gas milage - especially if the brakes don't stick on them.

I gotta go up and check on the slowest install I've ever seen in my life.

Wanna bet if I do a search on google for Pro Scooter racing I get hits ?

Or would that need to be moved to the Gambling forum ?

LOL

I just checked on the install - now it looks like both of the SCSI disk are toasted. So much for trying to recover any data off of them.
At this point I think I should just go and buy an overpriced IDE drive here, toss that in and be done with it. This thing barely does anything, IDE should be just fine for it.

A 30gig IDE drive here is going to cost like $200 - oh well, I'm not the one paying for it.

This day roxors.

No Zip Drive at all - which is only like 100MB if I recall correctly.

Just got an 80G IDE HD for $140 - not too bad for here.

Now to get this shit going - I've moved it down to my desk so that I can at least sit down.
