My abs protrude out further than my chest

What type of ab work can I do to help keep my stomach flat. I don't have any fat on my abs, and lots of muscle but the upper and lower area of my abs really stick out, like a gh gut sort of. I do mostly hanging leg raises and cable crunches. Is this caused from improper form, or over-development of the abs. What can I do to help this.

i have read about people doing exercises where they just suck in there gut really deep.. trying to touch the belly button to the spine and holding for a sec then relaxing slightly and then sucking in again do this over and over (on an empty stomach) for a few weeks and they claim to have a much smaller waistline..

i was never able to stick with it for any length of time but its worth a shot.. you do feel it so who knows..

also strengthening the lower back can help to.. if you do heavy work for back there try high rep work

good luck

I train abs and lower back very intensly, the muscles are strong and thick, but I am having a hard time trying to reduce the size of my waist, maybe higher reps with slow movement and exhaling hard at peak contraction?

Enigmamaxx: I am trying hard at building my chest also, chest and abs for me are my worst "looking" bodypart, not hard looking like back, arms, delts, and legs.

Don't do any weighted ab work, other than the weight of your body. I've been told weighted ab work makes your abs thicker causing then to stick out.

I have the same prob and attibuted it to my posture. There's a short thread on the training board regarding it. As of now, I do no specific ab work, they get some with large movements, but nothing direct anymore.

I agree with Enigmaxxx, build your chest to match. Hey... you have abs, even though you may not like them, I am shure that there are a ton of others who would like take them away from you.

Correct!!!! subjects whose posture or as we call it who are sway backed tend to have proluding abs!you can concentrate on learning correct stance in keeping the lower back straight.Age will determine if this problem will eventually correct itself,or seek an opinion from a chiropractor.
