Mustang V6

DISTURBED1

New member
I'm thinking of getting a new mustang V6. I would get the V8 but can't afford it cause i'm still in college. How does the V6 run? I was planning on getting the V6 now and then later on dropping a V8 into it. Is this smart? I think the V6 mustang goes for about 16000 if I am not mistaken which is what I plan on spending. Is there something better I could get for this price that is new? I'm looking for something sporty with decent speed. Thanks in advance.

You'll get assraped on insurance either way. You could probably pick up a 2001-02 V8 for right around 14,000. If you want a new one, then yeah, it's gonna be around 20-22K, last I checked.

i have a 2000 v6 stang
it is decently fast, decent gas mileage, cerrtainly nothing special
just your average american "sports car" ....
if you demand alot out of a car, speed, handling, something specific, you may look elsewhere
but for just the normal driver , it is FINE. the interior is plastic
mine doesn't have ABS either, woopdy do, its not hard to get used to that, just be careful in the rain or whenever it is slick, it WILL get out from under you if you do not pay attention in turns

i have not had ANY problems with my car,.. it has been totally reliable for me thus far, I am a college student also, so I expect it to last me as long as i need it to. regular maintenance/fluid change will make enough difference that I recommend it

I dont know pricing of new v6 stangs, I got mine on a dealer discount through my dad anyway.

overall, I say it is a good car, if that is all you want. Like I said, if you demand good handling or something, you can modify it as much as you want, sway bars, the works. (I have not because I can't afford it)
But do NOT drop a v8 in it. If you want a v8, BUY a v8, trust me, it is not worth sinking the money in a v6

Thanks for the replies. I think I am just going to try and find a used v8. I'm looking for something that is going to be fast and I do not think I will be satisfied with the v6. I'm just going to have to shop around and hopefully find an older v8 with a decent price. Thanks again.

keep in mind, most people with a v8 (camaro, stang, etc) drive the shit out of it, this I know from experience

If you can buy it from someone you know didn't drive it hard, or say, some older individual that had a mid-life crisis, go for it. but the insurance is going to be killer.

Seriously, buy something a year or two old, you'll save a ton on depreciation and still have warrantee (unless you're hoping for payment plans/lease)

As for new, Dodge has something realy quick coming out soon that I've seen advertised under $20,000

The Subaru WRX and the Acura RS are also pretty good bang for the bucks at near $20K

the insurance a killer? mm ok, my brother has a 95 gt mustang and the insurance is 2100$ a year and he has had 5 tickets

I guess you get better rates in Tenessee than in SoCal. It would cost me $3200 annual for the same vehicle and I have 1 ticket on my record (in 4 1/2 years of being liscensed)
