Most talented,newer young bands?

HUCKLEBERRY FINNaplex

Elite Mentor
Platinum
Alright my musically inclined brotha's,let's hear some of your votes on some of the new,up and coming bands out there.Who are your recent favorites in terms of talent?A couple that I have been impressed with over the past year or so are:

Puddle of Mudd
Hooba Stank
Incubus

Bare in mind,Huckster's not real up to date on the music scene, and that is why I am posting this thread,to get some opinions on some recent CD's worth buying,lol...Shoot your pics of some talented newer bands at me peeps...

hey my brotha

dont waste your $$$ on one bands CD there will be like 2-3 songs that are"good", i usually get compilation albums or something like top hits of 2001 for example

Totally agree with this... almost. There are always exceptions and I think Lateralus by Tool is definitely worth buying. I get all my music from Kazaa and downloaded this album before buying it. Good entire albums are Toxicity by System and Is This It by the Strokes.

Hey Huck

you wont be sorry with these bands

if you like the ones you mentioned you love these

DISTURBED

40 BELOW SUMMER

DUST FOR LIFE

SOIL......( I have been listening to this one 3 days straight) =)

esp. DISTURBED AND SOIL......SHOULD BE PART OF ANYONES COLLECTION

Okay, two votes for DISTURBED,so it looks like that is one I'll be checking out.BTW,I forgot,I did really like linkin Parks CD as well.Just picked up Hooba Stank's new one,and it has a LOT of great songs on it.I hate that shit when you go and buy a CD and the only good song on the entire track is the one they play on the radio,lol...Thanks for the feedback fella's,keep shooting 'em at me.

hoobastank and Incubus are the same band. Puddle of Mudd is a little too commercial for me. Disturbed is pretty cool but to me they seem like Pantera junior- but if your into Pantera you would lke it.
If you like Tool, there is a band called Earshot that sounds so much like Tool they should be sued! Go to streetwise.com and listen to them- it is crazy how much the singer tries to sound like Maynard.
System of a Down is a must own- both albums.
Vex Red - UK band, they rock.
Pressure 4-5 , I like their album, some good tunes.
Adema is good as well. Worth buying.
Go pick up Helmet "betty" or "aftertaste" if you cant find an album you like all the way through.
Soulfly "Primitive" is great.
BT "Movement in Still Life"- awesome album all the way through.
36 Crazyfists is pretty cool.
there are plenty of albums worth buying but you have to do more than listen to what the radio crams down your throat. Maybe you've never heard trip-hop and you listen to some Massive Attack or DJ Shadow. You might like it. But judging from the bands most of you listed you guys like more popular type stuff.
Deadsy has some cool songs.
Definately check out the Blade II soundtrack, has some BAD AZZZ shit on their- Cypress Hill w/Roni Size, Mystikal & Moby- sweet!
The new Moby album is pretty good- pretty much Play part 2.
Slipknot is good for working out.
Rammstein "Mutter" - good album.
Primmer 55 - the (new) release- kick ass album.
Pitchshifter- good band.
(hed)pe- their last album is pretty cool, a bit on the rap-rock side but cool nonetheless.
I could tell you lots more if you want, I know tons of bands.
Also, my album will be out within the year hopefully- my band is called "Rouse"- if your into stuff like Deftones and Helmet you would dig it- look for us on Ozzfest.

i thought we were talking non-mainstream... and what's with the metal resurgence?

i like some mainstream but i personally think indie is often sooo much better because it hasn't been overproduced.

OMG:o , talk about jockin. Sounds just like Judith by A Perfect Circle (Maynard's other band). I'll probably check it out. If you think about it, it's kind of like remixed Tool songs with different band members. Yeah, that ain't so bad.:)

Yeah at first I was annoyed by the Maynardesque vocals but I listened to the album and it's basically Tool without the progressive song structures..not too bad-the song called "armenia" is pretty interesting. Sad how many bands try and copy other bands so much. hoobastank is a good example. There is an army of Incubus copies that labels have signed and are planning on unleashing them onto the radio until people get sick of that style. Then they will dump the bands and move to the next fad. That is the reason for so much crap music around these days.

i want to start a "band", actually I just want to write the songs, and make the music on a computer and sing everything myself. Problem is, what do you do nowadays to try and sound original, and without sounding completely idiotic in the process.

here huck, fuck those bands you listed...they suck hard. seriously. huck (and everyone who likes good hard music) get these cd's

tool - (any tool cd you can find)
marilyn manson - antichrist superstar
mindless self indulgence - fgwss
vision of disorder - self titled + imprint
deftones - adrenaline
nine inch nails - the downward spiral + the fragile
system of a down - self titled + toxicity
mudvayne - ld 50
the dillinger escape plan - calculating infinity
converge - jane doe
black bomb a - self titled
rage against the machine - first 3 cd's
slipknot - slipknot
kmfdm - symbols
static-x - wisconsin death trip
nothingface - audio guide to everyday atrocity
dog fashion disco - anarchists of good taste

LOL,that song toxicity by system of a down is hilarious.I crack up at that guys voice every time I hear it.Sounds like Groucho Marx screaming punk lyrics. Those dudes are insane.

That is funny!!
Who is more likely to listen to N Sync? Someone who lists Tool and Rage as their favorites or someone who lists Foo Foo Dolls? Huck if you buy (or download) any Foo Foo Dolls make sure you have some clomid. Their songs convert to pure estrogen.

If you like them, I have a couple further recommendations: Celine Dion and Jewel. HA HA fruit cake!!

OK, here's a few off the beaten path that you may enjoy. Since most of the responses on the thread focus (for the most part) on metal. Here's a few non-metal.

Jimmy Eat World - Self Titled (originally "Bleed American"). Every tune on that disc is good, I mean it.

John Mayer - Room for Squares

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairly Tales

Phantom Planet - Phantom Planet Was Here.

Just a few suggestions.

One thing that I learn on the net is that when one as yourself makes such an attempt as to down another for something, that they have some underlying issues and or likes what the subject was about in the first place. But they don't want anyone to know.

It's really OK that you listen to Nsync, We'll understand...

Go ahead... you can say it... we all know anyways!

Yes I have Bye Bye as track six on my current workout mix, which goes like this:

1. Tool: Jimmy
2. Tool: H
3. Hives: Told You So
4. Trust Co: Downfall
5. RATM: Sleep Now in the Fire
6. Bye Bye
7. Korn: Here to Stay
8. Nirvana: In Bloom
9. Offspring: Self-Esteem
10. System: Aerials
11. RATM: Guerilla Radio

Then I throw in a couple Goo Goo Doll songs to bring up the intensity. You know that one song, where they dress as manequins and wear lipstick in the video. Wait, that could be several different ones.

If that's the one thing you've learned from the internet, I got news for you: you haven't learned anything.
He said he liked:
1) Puddle of Mudd. which sounds like Nirvana
2) Hoobastank, which sounds like Incubus
3) and Incubus, which sounds like... nevermind.
The point is, if someone were to throw those 3 bands at me and ask for a few recommendations, I could list 200 bands closer to that style and you came up with the Village Peop... I mean Goo Goo Dolls. Sorry, I mix them up with the way they dress.

I have no underlying issues as you claim. Goo Goo Dolls are gay. I'll bet you'll read into that statement that I am a homosexual since you seem to be pulling internet theories out of your ass.

Dude, that's the same group only Adema doesn't have a guy throwin out third grade raps. It sounds like Puffy wrote those raps. :fro:

I swear, if I were to look at this without knowing what it is, it would sound like another of those "dedicated to Biggie Smalls" tracks:

Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on, but didn't even know

Yup you talk about gay and my ass in the same paragraph..
That seals it,..... Your gay "not that theres anything wrong with that"

Yes, the GG Dolls are very talented at dressing up.

But seriously, it's fine that you like them, but I wouldn't go listing them. I like Weezer, but based on what Huck said, I didn't recommend them. I guess we interpreted what he said differently.
Based on the bands Huck put, I would recommend System, Tool, RATM, Nirvana, Offspring, and the Strokes.
Other bands that I think are awesome, but don't fit with what he said would be Radiohead, Weezer, Sublime, Pennywise, Jimmy Eat World, NFG and that's about all I can think of right now. Lots of downloadin there.

PEBCAK, your knowledge of good music always seems to astonish me.
I love jack Johnson, he is great. He is the best to listen to right after a long surfing session. I didn't think anyone on the east coast even knew about him. I guess that goes to show that good music eventually gets around, nomatter where it starts.

Huck, listen to the masses, Tool is great, as is System, RATM, Sublime (they are no longer together), Jack Johnson, A perfect Circle, Earshot, Disturbed.

Those are just some off the top of my head.

who ever was talking about Earshot (I'm too lazy to go and look) you guys are right. That guy trys really hard to sound like Maynard, but it's kinda cool, cuz once Maynard stops doing his thing there would have otherwise been nothing that came close to his style. So maybe Earshot will be a good thing. I have seen Earshot 2 times live, and they suck live, but it might have been cuz of the shitty equipment of a new band. Anyways, I think something good will come from them, or at least I would like to see something good form. Never as good as Tool, I just will not have that.

Okay,the masses have spoken,here's Huckster's 'to-get' list:

Disturbed
Tool
System of a down
Jack Johnson

Thanks my Brotha's(and sista's)!

About 10 years ago rock musicians forgot how to play their instruments. Rock is being played by a bunch of hacks who couldn't play their way out of paper bag. Talent? Please.

I will agree with you for the most part. But have you listened to the likes of Tool lately, they lack no talent at all. Joe Satriani, he is possibly the best guitar player EVER.
But, yes for the most part mainstreem rock, like the guys in BigReds post above, lack talent and are all studio bands.

PK, Thanks for the compliment. As I've said before I first heard Jack playing with G-Love, but didn't really get into him until Brushfire came out. Jack has actually been getting some decent mainstream radio airplay around here which is quite surprising as it's usually really lame.

I'm lucky to have a listener supported station in conjunction with the board of education that is really killer. It's all volunteer, but they really have a grasp on cutting edge music. Not quite as random as some University station I've heard, which I tend to like.

Oh, yeah and they broadcast over the web. Surf over to 90.5 WBER and take a listen. If you like true alternative music then you will like WBER. I tend to avoid the 2-4PM EST timeframe as that is when they send the signal to two local High Schools and...well I just can't stand it. Otherwise great station.

Totally agree. I was just thinking about this on the way home from the gym this morning. I'm only 22 and I listen to the classic rock station more than the rock stations nowadays. All the bands of today barely have any talent. They play 3 or 4 chord songs that suck. Rock has lacked originality for a while now which is why all the cd's I've burned consist of Metallica, NIN, etc. I think Monster Magnet is probably the last of the rock bands but they have pretty much faded away. Seems like this is the "new rock". Should be called bitch rock though

I do like the odd time signatures in Tool. Their drummer kicks butt. They are more thoughtful in their approach to songwriting.

For some wacked out death-meets-jazz check out Cynic. They only have one album out I believe.

This is nothing new but if you want to hear an
amazing song listen to 'failure' by the SWANS.

And TOOL really is the best 'pop' band out there!
Is a perfect circle releasing new material this year?

CRNT93 said:

First of all TOOL is not 'pop', they don't fit into a "catagory" if you ask me. The set the standard for their own music, and that's exactly what a great band should do. When you said best you were dead on, but 'pop' has to get out of that statement.

And yes when Tool is done with their extensive tour Maynar is going to the recording studio with APC, and Justin is going to the studio with Peach. It should be a good year!

Those who think that musicians today cant play are wrong. I keep hearing that but think about it- because guitar players play more simple style rhythm's doesn't mean they cant play. I can play all that 80's and 90's blistering speed chops style but I dont by choice. That technical style is long gone and I am glad-My music is simple and driving(SOAD,Deftones,Helmet)- there are plenty of good talented bands out there- you just have to look beyond MTV for them. Rap-Rock is what dumbed down modern rock if anything- it had its place but I wish people would move on. It is going to take a special band to move it past this current fad. Tool has become essentially a prog rock band, no denying that. They probably have done their part and wont be breaking much new ground. There is fresh blood out there......just wait and see, there will be some good new bands before long. Do yourself a favor and check out Vex Red- they are better than allot of the new bands out there. Oh yeah and take a listen to some Regurgitator- an aussie band, one of my fav's.

You know, pop is short for popular, right?
And since TOOL is getting in the charts it's why I call it
"pop".However I too hate it when it's put in the same category
as Linkin Park and other nu-metal crap like that.TOOL is original however they too have their influences as well.Maynard has said that they "stole" quite a bit from King Krimson.

Peyote, you wanna hear original?Download that SWANS track I recommended. That will never be 'pop'!

True, but they stray from the limelight alot. As far as the charts go, they are there cuz they are good, you will never see them on TRL. Yes, Maynard gives credit where it is due, but that does not mean he took there entire style, he liked the way they incorporated percussion into music, as well as performance. But, as far as lyrics go, no one comes close.
And, SWANS are pretty badass, I have to give that to you, I have been jamming them for about 2 - 3 months, I like them too.

Okay,followed your advice...So far got System of a Down and Disturbed.DISTURBED IS BAD-ASS!!(stupify,Down with the sickness,The Game)Thanks my peeps,you guys(and gals)know your shit!

people, check out mindless self indulgence. they are fuckin crazy and just so different and good. you will like them. get the song "I Hate Jimmy Paige"

Here's a few suggestions from more of the underground stuff going on but you should recognize a couple of names.

If you have a hard time finding some of this stuff just let me know.

Monster Magnet (the older the better)
Kyuss
Dozer
QOTSA
Cowboys & Aliens
Puddy (great Canadian band)
Dern Rutligde
Natas (not the rap shit)

There are tons more so I can always give you more names :)
