Morning Cardio on Empty stomach do burn fat or muscle?

Too bad it dips into the muscle stores just as much.

Of course the carbs will be used for energy, but that means those carbs you're burning won't be stored as fat. It all comes down to calories, fuck substrate utilization, fuck time of day, fuck intensity...none of that matters. What matters is that you burn the extra calories.

In the morning your body is in a very catabolic state, why compound this by doing cardio at that time? Sure, you'll burn more fat...but you'll also burn a shitload of muscle. And when you eat after, you'll use that energy to store the fat and protein you just lost. It all evens out in the end...calories are what count.
I'm sorry i even wrote this! Nelson & I debated this to death a few yrs ago--- I do not have any proof it burns muscle as long as you don't push things!
Anyway I'm outta here with this one.......been there ain't going back!

RADAR

You can rack our brain and argue the point to death. i do cardio on an empty stomach. Some don't. Do what makes you happy and what seems to work or not work for you. Peace out on this one for me as well.

it depends on the person, I recently did a test that actually shows what your body is burning at different heart rates, i.e the percentage of carbs and fats your body uses as fuel. You take the test in a fasted state, its called the new leaf programme in the states I believe.

Anyway the test results vary enourmously from person to person, some people are 100 % efficient burning fat at a given heart rate while others may burn 50% fat 50% carbs. If you are one of those people that burns carbs readily then you obviously need them prior/during you workout, if you have a heart rate range where you burn 100% fat then obviously you should not have the same concerns. Bottom line is it depends on the person

Here's how it breaks down....but I must say I'm with Radar on this one - no hard evidence exists that details the percentage of fat loss increase by doing cardio on an empty stomach.

I think it's more complex than that...more complex than that? You see, Killer was the son of a three legged bitch named ....oh sorry, wrong movie.

In order for the body to move, it requires energy. It would rather take energy from foods that you have eaten, than go through all the effort to utilize fat or glycogen stores.

Yes calorie reduction is how you cut. Cardio no matter what time of day will burn calories. But, cardio in the morning will derive more energy (calories) from fat stores if you have not eaten than it will if you have eaten ...therefore theoretically more fat is mobilized and oxidized.

When I start doing morning cardio on a empty stomach, I really start to see the results. I am not saying that no muscle is burned but if it is I don't see the effect. If muscle was being bujrn at the rate of the fat loss then I think that eventually over a 8+ week period that I would see strength losses or something. But I dont'.

The one cavaet is that my morning cardio consists of inclined walking, bicycle, and some stair climbing. Most of the time my heart rate is at 120-130. Some would say this is not really cardio. But over a 1 hour period, I burn 600-700 calories and then I go and have a small whey protein shake.

The debate will continue but I stick with what works for me.

cant answer that question precisely.
but what i CAN tell you, is that last spring i did that as part of a 12 week cutter.
i went from about 14% to 7-8% in those 12 weeks.

did am cardio on efedrine/caffeine 3-4 times per week.

i wouldnt do it again as i simply dont have the dedication to do it..
its a total burn out!

nowadays, i stick to 20 minutes cardio after each workout and low cals.

on top of that, some low dose dnp/efedrine/ventolin.

we're crazy creatures.

I have to strongly agree with bulldog.

When I went thru basic military training for thr USAF, they would make us to PC before breakfast. I went in weighing 175 and out 165. Alot of muscle mass was lost. Id say about 5lb or more.

Nowa days i only do cardio immediately after weights. It takes the first 20min of excersize to start dipping into fat stores. By the time you hit the elliptical, your heart rate will be at optimal levels, and be burning fat from the start.
