More Growth Than You'd Get On Steroids

LOL, nelson's posts always seem to spark some kind of controversy.

To the main point, i just finished stuffing my face. I've taken in over 350 grams of protein already today. I'm about to kick the belt back a notch for an hour or so :)

There's nothing controversial about saying you need to eat to grow.

I do, however, think it is a good reminder to many on this board.

How is it impossible? You only have ONE recovery system, not a system for each individual muscle group. What you said means that even if someone did 40-50 sets for each group then they could do that 6-7 days a week without any worry of overtraining.

If you want to build muscle (unless you have Flex or Dillet's genetics), you need compond movements and progressively heavier weight. Compound means you use several muscle groups and utilize at least two joints. So you can't train "one body part" only once a week. Tris will be involved in chest and shoulder presses for example. Unless you do all isolation movements, but if you try that you won't make progress for shit anyways.

i agree with most of what you say. the one area i dont agree with is required heavy compound movements to get bigger. other factors play into muscle growth and heavy, low rep lifting isnt ideal for hypertrophy. time under tension, rep ranges, and rest periods all impact muscle growth more than poundage.

This is a chapter in itself. The body doesn;t like big gains. It's too much of a struggle to hold onto them. And when no longer anabolicaly enhanced (never mind suppressed) it will lose that extra weight.

It's better to make slower gains so the body can adjust. Sure, steroids can help make it faster. After 5 years of training it's unlikely you'd gain 5 pounds of muscle in a year naturally. With gear, you can gain 5 pounds in a month and with proper PCT, hold onto it. But gains of 25- 35 permanent pounds from one cycle? I'm calling bullshit of that. The only way someone can gain that quickly and keep it is if they're always on or taking very short periods in between cycles... or it's fat.

I don't care if you have the world's perfect PCT.... if you're not eating to sustain that mass you will lose it no matter what. I see this time and time again. It's pathetic. You need to put more time into the kitchen than the gym if you want any type of decent looking physique.

In order of importance:
1. Kitchen
2. Bed
3. Training

4. Gear

i'm not saying don't go balls to the wall everytime you're in the gym, or training isn't important, my point is that you can train as hard as you want but without diet and rest you're not going to see great gains.

Great post Nelson.

I like nuts..I snack on nuts throughout the day for this purpose. Dry roasted unsalted peanuts contain 170 calories (130 calories from fats) in just an ounce with 14 grams of total fats. Mostly good polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Plus 8 grams of protein.

Nuts are a great choice

This is a reminder of sorts. I see a lot of posts about gaining weight and getting bigger and I'd say 9 times out 10 the person asking can gain more naturally than with drugs. Most people do not know how to grow. This is why the dosages have gotten higher and the physiques have gotten shittier. It's no secret -- training and diet do the trick -- but only if you train like an animal and eat like one too.

There is FAR too much concern with overtraining. It's actually almost impossible to overtrain unless you're ill, are sleep deprived, do too much cardio or are injured. Nuff said.

On to eating.

Naturally, protein is the key, but even 200 grams of protein is tough to get. And that's only 800 total calories. You need much more than that to grow.

Some people claim that overeating will only make you fat. Yeah, if you're already 5'9" and weigh 200 pounds and train like a pussy. But so many guys are simply too small and need calories. And that means FAT. Fat is anabolic. You will not get fat if you still have to fill out your frame and you work hard enough.

Back in the 60's when Rheo Blair had everyone using his protein and mixing it with cream, those guys were growing like weeds. Sure, the protein was better than the crap available at that time, but it was no better than what you can get now. The secret was the cream. Fat makes you grow.

Some people have a hard time with fat. Rack of lamb and butter and cream get a little gross after a while.

Try this.

Snack on "fat" foods. That means in-between meals you can eat nuts, or olives. They won't fill you up and they add a lot of calories. Hummus and chips is great too. LOADED with calories. And Greek yogurt is made from cream. Try it with honey and walnuts. A whopping 400 calories and you'll be hungry 1/2 hour later.

As for supps, all I'd recommend is Tropical Orange BIG BLAST with Sunny Delite. Alright, now we're adding a bunch of carbs as well as fat but it's so easy to get down, adds super plama protein, creatine and tastes fucking awesome. And it won't bloat you like most protein drinks so you have room for solid food. That's the thing -- weight gainers that are filling defeat the purpose because they just replace other calories you'd eat. You need something that you can have in ADDITION to your meals and snacks.

Getting big is a commitment. ANYBODY can get bigger. I've put clients on this method and they say they feel like they're juicing because they're busting out of their shirst after a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, you can;t maintain this forever. They'll come a time when the metabolism will slow and you will start adding fat. But in order to get bigger the body must adapt to BEING bigger. This makes this plan a perfect "pre-cycle" tactic.

And one last reminder. Lift and lift some more! Give your body a reason to get bigger. Feed your muscles!!! Do this and you will experience even GREATER gains when you cycle.

Getting bigger is the key. That's why they call it bodyBUILDING. And you can't do that, even with steroids, without sufficient calories. And a lot of weight lifting.
Great thread man.
