MMA guys what kind of cycles do you do??

I used to train with a dude around your size.......I always told him his knees were like rocks (when he checked my kicks). Funny thing is for his size, he had NO power in his hands. Never understood that one?

Umm , wasd he big around the Middle ?

A lot of ppl that Ive worked with with "Bellies" seem to have some wierd "Disconnect" between their Legs and their arms when they strike with their hands . I usually fix this by Recording them on Film working a bag , Drilling , and then Sparring , and then making them visually aware oif the Issue . its like htey pull their shoulder away as theyre striking forward bewcause of the way theyre built .

Im not describing this well - has anyone else seen what Im talking about ?

Arlovsky (like MOST of the MMA world) strikes like a child - literally like one of my first or second year students , and Fedor is good Despite his weight , not because of it - rather like Dempsey or Marciano .
That's a bold statement coming from someone who hasn't competed at their level, brother.

It seems with your incredible size (and according to you....decent stanima) that you can EASILY compete at the professional level. "Wrestle non-stop for 25-35 minutes, wearing 3-5 people out...", Wow! I look forward to seeing you in Japan soon and ordering you on pay-per-view! Make sure you call Alcatraz1662 from elitefitness.com a condescending asshole when they give you the mic to speak after your win.

I roll on the mats 4 times a week, lift 5 days a week, take Muay Thai lessons 2-3 times a week for 2-3 hours a day, AND I play collegiate football.....just started Spring training. I'm 6'1, 212 lbs, at about 11%BF, and I'm gased after I go through 3-5 people after 20 minutes. But I'm rolling with collegiate wrestlers, so maybe it's different with you...

All jokes aside (sarcasm included), I'm not trying to be condescending nor am I trying to patronize you, big man. You know how the internet is, people love to exaggerate. I'm just very skeptical, maybe you have exagerated a little with your conditioning? You'll get nothing but good Karma from me. Keep working out and stay physical.

Well , You as anyone else knows that Conditioning isnt a Static State , it Fluctuates , and sometimes life gets in the way and I lose some of that , but other times I find myself with a few weeks with nothign BUT time on my hands and it goes up from there .

But as for the rest of it ...

I was fighting MT in Thailand in my early Teens , an Lei Tai Matches in China at about the same time . Ive already "BTDT" , and frankly , "At Their Level" brother , come on ... Most amateur GGers make OVER 99% of the guys in MMA look like shite in the striking dept . For every Cro Cop and Mo Smith you have theres a thousand ... well , anyone elses .'

ANd that "You Dont Have A Right To Talk Unless YOu Become A Pro Fighter"crap is a rather silly argument . I make more money than that . AND I dont get hit in the face to do so . So why the hell would I take a Pay Cut to get a job that I dont like ? I train MA to NOT get hit bro . And m,y assessment would be JUST as Valid if I were in a Wheelchair and A Quadrapelegic . THrow ANY of these guys into a pro Boxing match with SCRUBS in their weight Classes and they get their asses handed to them ., Thats no "Secret" nor does it take ME being a friggin (so-called) "Pro" to "Prove" . When Phil Baroni isnt making Videos about how Horrible his Car is even though hes on Billboards and Magazine covers THEN I might THINK about it , but even Top Prize at Pride is what ? 116K ? after taxes thats 58 , and even if you ONLY spent 20K a year on training/travel that pushes you down to 38k . YOu can make 60K/year fixing Computers , Bartending , or Driving a cab in NYC . Hell , its only what ? 1155/week ? If I wanted to play in a Symphony I could make 80k MINIMUM in most mid size cities , and not even work the whole year round ! ANd again , NOT train so hard , and NOT get punched in the face for $ .

All I have to say to that is....well then that's your choice.

Everyone is born a free man. Well, at least in the country I live in it is. If you want to flip burgers, bartend, do exotic dancing, or drive a cab in NY-that's your perrogative. MMA isn't for the weak or faint hearted, it's a dedication, an investment. The reason why there are people fighting and getting paid crap money, is because THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE MONEY! It's not about that, they are there because they want to be. I'd rather do something I love and get paid minimum wage than bartend or drive a cab and get paid a decent :p wage.

"You train MA not to get hit?" Yeah, doesn't everyone? Last time I checked, not getting hit is a main idea in MA. Anyone can walk into a dojo and train in MA. Putting your skills to the test against someone else is a different story. I think they call that competition.

I don't get paid a dime to play football in college. As a matter of fact I find myself paying out money to play (for warm-ups, other football gear, time going out to practices, time away from studying). I'll be damned if I quit football and get a job because I'm not making good money.

To each his own, though.

And a lifestyle and philosophy.

Djimbe, I just want to point out bro, is that the dudes in PRIDE make waaay more money than 116k. UFC is the one you gotta hate for the shitty way they pay their fighters. PRIDE and K1 is where the money is. Although UFC does shell out 250K to names like Couture /Liddell (though the bottom guys get like 5k a fight which is just ridiculous).

You must spread some Karma around before giving it to Yarg! again.

I got that number from an Interview with Saku about winning a tournament last year . That was the number he threw out for if he won it .

And theres nothign WRONG with THEM or YOU loving it so much , but what if I , PERSONALLY dsont share that love ? Youre trying to Imply that that makes me "Less Of A MAN" than you ? Heh . Honestly I think that MMA is a Shitty Ruleset . Ill Train to it sometimes , just to be abreast of Current Trends , but I prefer San Da/San Shou/Lei Tai , and even Dumog or Muay Thai Rules . And if you want to be a MAN then Try Bareknuckle Boxing ! I DONT think MMA is "Closest To A Fight" , and I DONT think that most schools that train in MMA train you realistically for the real world . Yes , most TOP LEVEL MMA fighters can defend themselves just fine , but all the tens of thousands of scrubs out there are getting set up for a Beating . I think that its a cool sport thats RELATED to what I do the same way that Boxing or Wrestling is .

Yeah , its a Tough Sport . SOs The Iron Man Competition . Sos Powerlifting . Sos Bodybuilding , So is Mountaineering/Mountain Climbing , So is the Ididerod , So is So is Marathoning . So is Gymnastics . Lots of things are Hard to be good at . its hard to be a top level Instrumentalist (serious , you practice like 12 hours a day) . The fact that you are attempting to "Appeal To My Manhood" is lost on me . I dont have that Kind of Ego . I dont think doing MMA makes me Tough . I think Living a good life and being there for my loved ones and being able to Provide for them , and make the lives of thoise around me better is what makes me tough .

Doing somethign thats "Not For THe Weak or Faint Hearted" (In other words somethign difficult) that you DONT love for NO money and changing around your entire life to do so makes you an Idiot . Coal Mining is FAR Tougher than MMA , and I dont see you Lauding THAT as any way to live , or anythign Glorious to go do .

Actualy , unless you go to a McDojo , they call that Sparring . And thats all "Competition" IS is glorified Sparring . So go to a (strange/foreign) school , Pay the Mat Fee , and Spar someone good Full Cointact every once in a while . The rest is self_Delusion and Bullshit . Because guess what ? With or withtout the Crowd , Entrance fees , or imagined "Glory" if yorue going hard then one of you will end up submotted or knocked out eventually .

Thats why REAL schools dont BS you by selling you on "Competition" so much . The fact is , Im new to my school , and Im NOT as good as the Senior Studnet , ands its going to take WORK to get there . I haave to be better than I AM TODAY tomorow , and thats all . The rest is just Ego Masturbation .

Dude , I LOVE playing Basketball (I know , with MY Bodytype ? But hey , cant help what you like ?) and I get to play it all the time . I play Pickup games here in town , and if thats not good enough I know where to go in Philly and in NYC to get some SERIOUS opposition (oftentimes better than the NBA)

But Ive been involved with Martial Arts for almost thirty years now . I have been there and doe ALL of that . Ive Fought in front of Crowds for nothign , Behind Closed Doors for Money , and what I foolishly thought of as "Honour" , Ive done the Train 10 hours a day thing , and other than the Ability to beat ppl up it dosent really get you a lot . Promoters make money , and heck , not even all of them . Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliment companies make money , And bully for them .

Can I get the link please? Cuz Sak makes a million a fight. For example: the official PRIDE release about NYE cites, the Ogawa and Yoshida fight was worth 4 friggin million dollars! Goddamn! Since the Japanese are all Judo crazy, these two famous Judokas got 2 million a pop. It was nuts!
