Military press - problems....

I'd suggest switching to a barbell and, ideally, performing a standing military press. You can then either clean the bar to your shoulders or take it from the rack.

Why do you want a burn? And why are you curling the weight up with good technique to perform a military? clean that bastard off the ground to your shoulders, and if that alone is too hard: Stand up, clean it to your shoulders and sit back down. Though, I agree with blut wump, I prefer standing up barbell militaries.

imo - an overlooked key to square shoulders is ensuring that the upper back musculature is well developed as well.....it hels keep the shoulders pulled back.

Just train progressively....use a constant set/rep range and try to add 5 lb a week. Barbells are easier to progress with than dumbells, because most gyms' dumbells are in 5lb increments, which is a total of a 10lb jump and it is unrealistic for most trainees to add 10lbs to an upper body press every week on a consistent basis (certain circumstances aside).....

I do all of my overhead work standing. I also agree that a strong upper back is key to upper body pressing as well as posture and appearance.

standing presses are great, but much more difficult than seated because you really need to have a strong lower back.
Ive done standing, but am much more comfortable doing everything seated.
