Military bro's, I need some advice

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, I'm just looking for advice wherever I can find it...
I've been battling with the idea of joining the military since I was 18, I'm now 23. I just can't seem to get over the need to help in some way if I can. To cut right to the chase, those of you who are in the military, do you feel like you have made a difference? I really dont like Bush or his agenda, but I feel that in order to have peace with myself, I need to know that I've helped other people in some way. The older I get, the more that I feel a duty to help those not as priviledged as us. I'm not some young yahoo who has the wrong idea of war and all of it's atrosities, I feel that I know as much as I can about it and I'm definatly not looking for glory or anything like that, I just want to help. So I guess my question to the military guys is, would you do it again if you had the chance? Thanks to everyone in advance, as this is something that has been ripping at me for a very long time and I'm about to make a final decision.

Why don't you volunteer at your local soup kitchen or play bingo w/ the elderly at a nursing home? There are many other ways to feel rewarded than killing.

since he is no longer hear, i will speak for my friend whom served. he will tell you that he was deployed his second time against his will and he had to drop out of college. i really think he was let down by our country and felt that he was treated unfairly. i am in no way whatsoever disrespecting our soldiers, just giving one perspective, i have nothing but love for our troops regardless of my political views, they fight so i can sleep at night its that simple.

You shouldnt make a decision on a career based on someone else, you should do it because you want to do it, otherwise theres a good chance you'll want out having to put up with all the shit you get. Besides, nowadays if you join up more or likely u WILL see war, and if u ask me, going to another country dodging bullets and suicide bombers, fighting and killing for some little worm sittin in his chair gibberin shit on the tv to the public doesnt quite sound like job satisfaction

i agree bro help out a kid who has no parents, you can help in a lot of ways. going off to war because you want to help seems weird to me.

Bro let me tell you it was the best thing I ever could have done in my life because I was heading down the wrong path! All I did was fight all the damn time for no reason at times and I had no discipline or future! I have always Loved my Country and when I got the chance I went in at 17 years old and it straightened me up quick! I didn't have any doubts though I wanted it and that is what you have to find in your heart. Then I decided if I was going in I wanted to be right in the shit so I went Airborne, Air Assault, & Ranger and there was many times I wanted to quit or didn't think I could make it another second and that's when my heart and desire came in to play. I was going to go Special Forces and then broke my leg really bad on a night jump after Desert Storm so I ended up getting out after 8 years. You can't believe everything you see on the news also because I have many Bro's in both conflicts that say they don't show any of the good that is happening over there. No matter what you always support our troops because they are just following orders and defending this Country we live in. I don't agree with allot of Pres. Bush's thinking but at least he don't take any crap!
