I thought it was great too.

That final test scene where they had to collect and put together that piece of pipe I think and CG spends about how many 10 hours? underwater and they just pull him out half dead gave me goosebumps.

Also where De Niro and Cuba put those helmets on in the bar and fill em up with water to see who wins was awesome.

Fantastic movie... One of my favorite movies being played almost
twice a month on cable..
Even better since the premise of the story is factual..

My Dad was in WWII in the Navy and said that blacks were treated very very badly on board ship... Even where they slept was worse than the whites. (engine rooms, hot etc)
Not until Vietnam were they given responsibility to do anything but cook, clean and manual labor due to lack of qualified draftees.
