Melatonin before exercise?

IrishHandGrenade

New member
Hey guys, I just read an article in Flex saying that melatonin taken before exercise raises GH during and after exercise. Does anyone know anything about this? I tried to do some research on the web and didn't find much. One article I found actually said it decreases gh during exercise. I realize that it would probably only be a slight increase but I figured it couldnt hurt.

stupid idea; you will feel shattered and not having energy to exercise; melatonin should be used before sleeping

plus working out with a huge erection isnt what everyone needs to see...

Ok, so forget about the possible side effects such as lethargy and (erections??), would an increased boost in gh during and after a workout have any benefits in the long run. For example, If I did this every day for 6 months and in actually works, would I be any better off than not doing it?

even if that were true i couldnt see gh rising enough to want to take a supplement which will more than likely cause you to feel sleepy and work out less intensley than you would want to.

No no better than not taking it. use it for sound sleep. Flex will right anything to sell a copy. They have to write about something increasing your test, gh or libido to keep us interested.

I see your point, but I take melatonin sometimes to help me sleep and if I dont lay down and actually try to sleep I dont get tired at all. Also, it said in the article that the test subjects didn't feel tired and it didn't effect thier performance in any way.

The reader is confused, melatonin does not cause erections, in fact, it's slightly estrogenic and increases prolactin . And no, it increases serotonin as well, the last thing you want pre-workout.

i agree with errn247. i think flex editors try to come up with new ideas to keep people more interested than reading the same thing over and over about how glutamine and creatine are essential pre and post workout for recovery and how insulin spikes after a workout.

Melatonin should only be used before bed time. Any of the Gh release will be occuring in REM sleep not before training. Any Gh boost u would get before training would be over shadowed by the sleepiness that u will feel. I would suugest orthinine and arginine but that also will make u very sleepy and should only b taken at bedtime

yea i think youre right as well. i believe that in order to have any significant increase of gh its linked to a correlation between the magnesium, B6 and melatonin and stage of REM sleep you are in. all of those factors would combine to increase gh, thats why melatonin is marketed solely for sleep purposes. youre nervous system is awake by the time you go to workout and you would not be in a stage of recovery at the time.

REM sleep is where we dream, GH is actually secreted during Slow Wave Sleep. This is stage 3 and 4 by the scoring criteria of sleep staging, and its where the body repairs Muscle Tissue.

Melatonin should be take in the evening, when its dark outside. It controls our bodyclock, and in no way makes you drousy.

Cheers

ps. The errection thing is melanotan II (the tanning agent).

the increase of gh by melatonin is unproven; i tried myself to locate study and i found very few information and usually i found what i want..

and even if melatonin would do that the moment to get it is before bed!!

Maybe you're talking about MelanoTAN not melatonin?

melatonin is for sleep...
