Loss and Longing
Heart sets sail as a ship on loves tumultuous sea
Crumbling, now bashed and broken again the bare reef
Driven ground fast by waves of loss and longing
Tender pieces adrift in a sea of disbelief
Fracture spine beached and broken dries on sands of windblown mourning
Pieces shoreward float and seaward scatter
Left now fractured and unwhole
White-hot emotion’s searing flash like lightning’s burning strike
Leaves images burned in mind and soul
Control lost for a moments time returns
Pulse interrupted starts again to flow
Bitter twisted gut regains lost breath
Scattered thoughts like driftwood in tides motion
Ebb and flow in the timeless gap of discovery
Chances lost hammer like waves against bare rock
Painful recognition of opportunities not taken
Echo like waves thundering under cliff
Downtrodden figure now washed ashore.
Lies facedown from breakers beating force
Wakened stir brings idle justifications
Sorrow and longing eat on soul like wave on sand
Lost chances tease in sinister mocking
Of the loneliness of shipwrecked despair
Hope torn like sails in the great storm
Heart cracked open like the split ships hull
Contents emptied and vessel left in shambles
Carelessness and apprehension the driving force of crushing wave
The hurricane of self-doubt finally extracting its toll
Leaves alone on sun-dried shore the figure of one lost from hesitation.
