I am looking at moving to Chicago after schooling and want to start eyeing where to live... I MUST live downtown, or near downtown.. I hear living downtown is expensive as shit? I have a reasonable budget but can't afford a $750,000 condo with $1500 HOA's...

I've seen a couple shows on TV where people drop $550,000 in a condo and it's old and not downtown.

Anyone from there or ever live there? Where can I live that is downtown (purchase not rent) or somewhere very close to downtown.

I just know I will have an office downtown, not an exact location yet

Also if anyone has a great realtor there in Chicago please PM me, if it works out I'll work out a finders fee for you

Save the stupid comments to puddle's posts:

I will NOT live in south chicago as I'd be killed instantly

it's a suburb; i'm just teasing you about not being able to afford a place downtown. Chicago is a great city, you'll love it (in the summer)

Yeah.... NY is cold enough. Fuck that, I like Boston too but same deal. Anything colder than NY sounds unbearable to me.

im moving to a new place too bro... good luck to you. im pretty certain smurfy's family is from chicago so maybe she will chime in when her lazy ass gets out of bed...

that's the thing, I don't really want to live in the suburb but I have to be realistic on what I can afford... I am going to have thousands in school debt when I get out and can't afford a $5500 payment every month... just looking for the average cost of living down there

I have been there in summer and winter and it's not that bad, not much different than where I live now.. just a little hotter in summer where I am and little colder in winter (only live about 350 miles southwest of chi-town)

absolutely love the town but hate moving to new cities and not knowing anyone

still in texas? good luck to you bro

I'm nervous and excited all at once.. it's still about a year away but I need to plan stuff to get this anxiety out of my system

na im in colorado... im moving to san diego. got a place in pacific beach ... im nervous to but fuck it... i arrive the 9th of this month

chi-town is a great place. i know pdaddy visited there, smurfy has some family there, and my buddy had an internship there this past summer. he loved it, aside from the lack of quality gyms near downtown (from what he said).

good luck to you bro

people there are really nice; it will be exciting not knowing anyone - you can start over and be whoever you want

Dude I live in Streeterville, which is downtown right up against the lake (literally across the street). How big of a place were you looking for? You could buy a newer one bedroom in a nice building & great location for $300k-$350k. If you dont mind living in the South Loop (which is also downtown) you could get a 2 bedroom in a brand new building for that price.

Chicago = legit.

yeah ngr Chi is slick, I moved up there after school and had a spot with my ex in Glencoe, worked in Oak Park. Things fell through up there though, had to relocate

It's nice, alot of things to do, cool nightlife, hot sluts. Weather is a sleaze but the seasons change at least

Lakeview = boys town. Wrigley = too crowded.

Lincoln park and South Loop are legit.

I don't want to live in a shady place, would like new but not against old...

I will be living alone but would have to have at least 2 bed/2bath for guests.. def don't want a studio

I want something with nice amenities... would love a lake view or on the river

would love something with veranda or balcony but not too picky..

I'm also thinking about renting for a year to learn the place ande meet people before I buy... what does a 2bedroom rent for downtown?

You could get a nice 2 bedroom in a nice area for $1,800-2,000.

no way i could afford Wrigley... love the cubs though, should def go to a couple games..

plus around wrigley seems real ghetto. Where is Lakeview?

DO you know of a website that searches condos in Chicago? I can't find a decent one..

check out the following neighborhoods:
south loop, west loop, lincoln park, lakeview, wrigleyville or lincoln square

you have a website I can look up condos in Chicago?

what is an average HOA fee there? They seem to range from $100-$1000... I know it depends on the amenities but $1000 seems crazy

Nice I love Chicago great place to visit the pizza alone is worth the trip also the shopping is awesome not NYC but pretty close.

i live in NW IN but mostly work in chicago. i can't afford the 10.25% taxes and inflated housing costs. also parking is a bitch. Lots of nice clubs/bars all over.

Also Wrigleyville isn't ghetto just really gay. Lotsa homo's there. Check out the bar called "the closet" U.S. Cellular/Comiskey is really not where you wanna be after dark.

hmm didn't know that about the handguns but that doesn't bother me.. I own 1 handgun and I never shoot it anymore.. use to go to the range all the time

dude its so fucking cold...like unbearable almost...-20 degree wind chills and shit so windy...other than it being so cold its an awesome city with tons of shit to do...much nicer than NYC in my opinion...much much much cheaper than NYC as well...it wont cost you 150 bucks for 4 people at TGI fridays like it does in manhattan with no alcohol

"Oh Hai, look at me!!!! I'm a overeducated, soon to be under-paid professional!!
Where can i live in chicago that gives me maximum exposure, even though i can't afford
it and will overextend myself for decades!!"""
