New member
Not being careful enough in the gym just sitting down with a dumbell in each hand one kinda slipped abit down my leg instead of being smart and dropping it i hung onto it and now i am the proud owner of a bulging disk... for a week i couldnt walk, just hop on one leg hunched over like a hobbit, the doc said no more heavy training impact sports blah blah blah what would he kno right??

so now i can walk, sitting down for extended periods hurts abit, picking stuff up kinda hurts but other that that i'm ok... i've gone back to gym only using machine weights chest press, fly machince, shoulder press etc etc...

anyone have a bulging disk that still trains with no worries??? how you work around it??? no doc tellin me i cant go gym no more.. thanks

let it heal properly before you go back to lifting and you should be fine, but if you push it to soon you could make things a lot worse.

I have a ruptured disc in my neck, I just worked thru the pain till it stopped giving me trouble. I still get the shoulder numbness and the finger tingles everyday it seems like, but I just said fuck it this is not gonna slow me down. Of course the doctor's said you will never lift heavy or work out again with weights, that was bullshit. Most doctor's I know are lard ass pansys anyway. Take it slow and dont be stupid, but dont let a dumb ass prescription scratcher hold you back. The only diffrence between most doctors and monkeys is that doctors can prescribe drugs. Whooptie shit. You think it hurts now, lay off and get out of shape and see how your life with the bad disc is. I bet the doctor that told you that is a completely pathetic slob, with a big fat fricking gut hanging over his 2 inch pecker. If you wanna know how I feel about doctor's you should ask me sometime.

I have a herniated disc, class 3, and degenerative. It's fucked. I still do squats and heavy deadlifts. It hurts like shit some times when it flares the sciatica, but I work through it.

I get an MRI annualy to track the discs degenerative progress. I'll need surgery in about 5 or 6 years, but until then, I'm balls to the wall with my training.

Well thats all the advice i need..... deadlifts it is lads. haha. yeah doc full shattered me when he said cant lift no more i would of preffered he just kick me in the balls 5 or 6 times.

Go see a sports specific or some athletic-related specialist, like a sport and spine doc. They are much more knowledgable when it comes to training with injuries than your normal family doc will be. I have an annular tear in my L1-L2 disc and my L2-L3 & L3-L4 discs are degenerative and I'm only 24. I have been going to a specialist for a couple of weeks for some therapy and some of the wild shit he has me do there helps immensely. So do the muscle relaxers.:chomp:

Don't get me wrong bro, doing deadlifts with a herniated disk without extremely strict form can and most likely will fuck your back up even worse.

If it is minor, take it easy and let it heal. It it is screwed either way like mine, then you decide whether surgery in 5 years versus 7 years really makes a difference.

Find a sports doc, they know stopping is not an option and will help you out.
