link re: MMA strength training...

I don't recommend one arm Snatches or cleans due to that most db's don't offer rotation like barbells and can cause external rotation of the should joint. A barbell is much easier and the lift can be converted for a fighter. Hang cleans, High pulls, speed deadlifts, squats. The only problem is many fighter don't have access to a proper strength coach

Mike Mahler is a great guy and certainly knows his stuff when it comes to this type of training.

I agree with lord suston that it is indeed hard to work with dumbells for many of the OL. Not to mention that they are hard as hell to learn without instruction. This I believe is why Mahler suggests using Kettlebells for a lot of his routines. They are easier to flip and rotate during snatches etc.

Amen!

Not good, the body is not suited to throw punches with weights due to velocity one's ligaments and tendons will suffer trauma over time. That is why training in water or with gloves against resistance would be more effective for strength and speed. Water training helps with streamlining one's punches and working on exploding throughout ther whole range, but using gloves against a bag will help torque and leg drive

what do u think about punching the air with like light weight dumbells in hand to fatigue...like 2, 3 mins

Good way to get hurt..and you'd be working the wrong muscles! Your front delts would really be doing the most work. Work the hell out of your posterior chain(back and legs and obliques) and you will be able to punch like a mule;) Try doing "Russian twists" with an olympic Barbell.

When your going to be practicing skills for boxing...you shouldn't really mix weights with the technique(especially the little pink "ken and barbie" kind). You should leave the weights in the weight room and the boxing techniques in the boxing gym, dojo etc. In other words when you lift be sport specific(meaning train the muscles that you would use when you box), but when your just trying to work skill, technique, endurance work for boxing then do just that. Example: just shadow box with 14 oz. gloves for some rounds as opposed to dumbells because this is what you would probably be using in a match etc...

Also, punching with dumbells with throw off your motor skills after you've been doing it a while becasue it really is not like throwing a proper punch(not using same muscles, groove etc.

Hope this was clear.
