i had this a LOOOONG time ago and it has just come back in the last couple weeks. Any time i do bb curls or that motion i get a feeling like the muscle is ripping away from the bone in my forearms. Doesn't really hurt while doing exercise, but when i rack the weight and let go it starts killing me.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

hmmm if u are getting the same pain i got when i was doing barbell curls.. or really any curl for that matter. ive found that i was like death gripping the bar when i shouldnt even have to hold the bar much at all. ive stopped grabbing it so much and now i just let it rest on my palms and just have enough of a cup in my hands for the bar to rest in

i'll try this, b/c it is a very painful ordeal.

This has been happening to me lately, it my might be any effort you made outside the gym, my case was at work and armwrestling... It hurts real close to the bone...

does it run down the edge of your radius bone (when hand is palm down, it is outer part of arm)?

if i were to go straight down from my pinky finger, that side of my arm. what i would call the outside, i guess...

yep. That's called tendonitis.

I dealt with it a lot as a pitcher. I was treated for it 7 times. The first time it flared up again after quitting baseball was when I started lifting heavy weights.

Deep heating, massage, and lightweight excercising, then ice is how you treat it. If you want to get rid of it, the "no pain no gain" theory doesn't fly. Whatever hurts, is too much.

I ignore it when it flares when I lift. It hurts some times, but screw it. The only way you are going to sreiously damage it is if your arm snaps in half, and it goes along with it.

It's just inflammation of the tendon.

Does it hurt even more or feel really pressurized when your forearms get really pumped?

kinda, mostly the pain comes right after i let go of the barbell. like as soon as i open my hand.

so i should use heat and ice?

Ah yes.. I recall this feeling well! I used to get it about once a year. It happened mostly at the beginning of my weight-lifting career.. when I was increasing weight the fastest.. and it was the most painful thing ever! I fought with it for over a year once.. and finally, it just got better. As I got older, it finally went away for good. It sucks ass. Like they said.. ice and heat.. and take lots of ibuprofen before an arm workout. There's just not much else you can do!

it's forearm splints, just like shin splints. i got it from heavy benching, it goes away just work thru it for now

Use a 16% menthol rub pre training and before bed. Something like Flexall 454 will work. Cissus will help too. I take 5gm a day. Sometimes I get this and then it just goes away. I felt it today doing weighted dips.

Probably due to the fact that you are using a straight bar. This puts alot of stress on your forearms. Might wanna switch over to an ez bar or try a wider or narrower grip.

I would not jump right to an injury like tendonitis guys, from what i gather its the first time it has happened to him in a while, not a chronic ongoing thing.

i always use a straight bar and it has only popped up the last two weeks. i had it probably 7 years ago last time and it eventually went away.

i'll try the ice/heat and the rub. thanks

I can't even use a straight bar. It fucking hurts. my wrists don't turn out far enough.

Tendonitis is inflamation of the tendon. It can have been building up for months and only just be felt now. (It also does not have to be chronic)

To get over this you need to:

Layoff - literally stop doing anything that requires you to grip hard for about a week.

In the meantime, take ibuprofen and use the salves recommended above if you like them.

Stretch the muscles as often as you remember at least 4 times a day. This will allow the tendon to relax fully. This will break the cycle - it is really important.

Same process applies for any muscle group, quads, hams, calves, etc.

I went through 8 months of PT for this exact issue. My pain first came when I was shaking hands with a bunch of people at a business dinner. I remember specifically shaking and after i let go my arm burned so bad. Musketeer hit it directly on the head.....layoff for about a week(at least). The heat thing in my opinion is a very bad idea. The more you heat the area up, the muscles & tendons expand and create even more pressure and throbbing. What worked for me is ice at night. 20 minutes on/1 hr off..(over and over until bedtime) and Advil 400mg every 4hrs. Additionally, at night before bed i would run my thumb down the area length wise to straighten everything out. It aggravated the shit out of it, but thats why i did it at night so i could sleep through the pain. The only why I could stop the throbbing after i healed was to wear my staps for everything. I curl, do tricep work, back work, whatever I can with straps. It might look odd, but im the odd guy with no arm pain.

I get this with BB curls - is it a wide arm grip? I think that as you raise the bar it trists the wrist and elbows in a direction that causes this pain. I get it worse on winny!

I took this last week off over this... It first started as forearm splint, then by trying to adjust for a painless position I ended up getting worst while doing bench press try to go for reps with a mediocre weight. It was very frustrating...
