lat pull down form

I've never really did them before, and I was wondering how far you guys pull the bar down. I've been doing it to my lower chest
 
I should add that it is what the machine at MY gym has written on it. I don't think for a minute that every gym has the same thing.
 
upper cheat collar bone, any lower and I think you take teh shoulder joint out of its normal range of motion which could be bad for rotator cuffs
