The chef actually brought us our glasses of table water. After he delivered the meal. I had to go back up front to the bar to get cocktails for us while we were waiting, which should never have happen. Then when I wanted to send a bottle of wine somewhere, I had to GO BACK UP FRONT TO THE BAR. You would think with me spending money on other people they would at least accommodate me. All she did was take our order and then bring us the check and run my card through. You know that the manager probably oversaw the card transaction, at least at the end of the night when they cash out on tips they made from credit cards.
It was not like she was busy. I could see her standing up front doing a lot of talking with one table. They must have been her friends because she kept going over there and chatting excessively with them. I did put my phone number on the receipt in case the manager wants to call me about the three dollars.

She lost a nice pay day last night.

Are you sure you weren't at somebody's house eating dinner ?

That tip was well justified. I too had very lousy service at a restaurant not too long ago and left a .29 tip but also spoke with the manager about the waiter's indifference to us. He was quite attentive to the other tables of his that were around us and I took notice to it. I got up walked to the manager and told him of my displeasure with the service we were getting so far. It actually started getting me angry just talking about it to him and I told the guy to not send that waiter back and how pissed off I was (it was a upscale casual kind of restaurant-not super high end but not applebees either). Not too long after, the waiter comes over and tries to make up for it but I just blew up on him. I called him an asshole and told him I would kick his ass and was going to wait for him in the parking lot !!! I wasnt yelling so no other tables really heard.
After I let it out on him he walked away not knowing what to think but didnt come back. They sent over another waiter in his place. I kind of felt bad for what I said and was actually scared the cops would be waiting for me outside...

On the way out, all the staff just kind of stared at me out of the corner of their eyes..

Yeah. And before he confronted the manager he ran to the bathroom and banged out 20 pushups so he could pump up the old bicep veins too.

good. people tip just cause they feel bad nowadays. I didn't come to your goddamn restaurant to pay your fucking employees' wages.

Hey dickhead, waiters/waitresses get paid $2-something an hour because people tip. They claim their tips and it's taxed. Sure, every waitress I've ever known has lied to some extent on how much they make in tips, but wouldn't you if you could?

My gf works part time as a waitress. She gets a whopping $2.83/hour when she's waitressing. The place she works at adds up all the sales each waitress makes each week and takes a percentage of that to claim for their tips, the waitresses don't do any of the paperwork themselves. So guess what'd happen if all the customers she had took your attitude...she'd end up with a paycheck stub saying she made $500 over the course of 2 weeks, $100-ish of it in regular wage, and she would get NOTHING. Yes, that's right, NOTHING. She'd be offering her services for free. Are you going to work for free?

Shitty service gets a shitty tip from me. If my food is slow, I do expect the waitress to come over and tell me something, check my drink, whatever. There have been times that I've had waitresses come to the table and say, "i'm sorry your order is taking so long. One of our cooks called off tonight and we are understaffed. Do you need a refill on your drinks?"

If a waiter/waitress isn't paying attention to her tables, she doesn't deserve a decent tip. I tip a bit more than 15% all the time, and will tip over 20% if the service is excellent.

Make sure you check your AMEX bill at the end of the month. On more than 1 occasion, I've had waiters/waitresses treat themselves to a bonus after I had left.

On the reciept that the resteraunt keeps, I ALWAYS either write in the tip amount if I'm not tipping with cash OR I write in a 0 and then on the line that says "Total" I re-write the total amount of the bill. If they tamper with it then, I'm pretty sure they could have legal action taken against them.
