Luckily, one of the Nation's best is close to where I live. I have terrible eyesight 20/400 in both eyses with severe astigmatism. My cousin just had hers done recently and she was seeing 20/40 less than 24 hours post-op.

Cornholio, I had this done almost a year ago and it was the best money that I have spent!!! I will be glad to answer any questions that you have. I was 20/400 in both of my eyes. Now I have 20/15 vision in both eyes. You will not be limited at all after your surgery. You shouldn't do any lifting the day of your surgery after the procedure. The next day you are free to do anything. You will be glad that you had the lasik surgery my friend.

Cornholio,

You are going to love it dude. I did the original rk(which is not as good as lasik) and it was the best money I ever spent. No more glasses no more contacts just perfect vision. You are going TO DIG IT!

Wodin,

No reason to be worried dude I would do it. It is really a pretty simple precedure and they do one eye at a time in case they mess up. :D Just kidding. Do it dude it is worth it.

Good to hear!!!

I hear it's pretty uncomfortable during the procedue, but it only lasts a few seconds....can't be too bad.

Did you take any extra vitamins/Minerals, etc??

I'm really ready to do it!!!!

Heard the suction thing was the worst part.

i had a friend get it done earlier in the year and he didn't change his supplements at all. he was very happy with it. plus you'll be able to find open receivers a lot better.

Doesn't it cost like $1000 each eye?

My wife is really wanting this....Damn that's $3000! j/k....Keep us posted dude!

LOL!!

My contacts run about 180.00 per pair and I go thru 3 pair per year because I work in a laboratory. So thats 500 bucks pluse the saline, etc...

I be saving money in the long run.

...

I'm getting it done next year, early 2002 here. They are doing it for like 800 per eye and can finance it like 30 bucks per month per eye so 60 bucks per month to finance it.

I've got the exact same shitty eyes bro. I've been thinking about this for a while also. Let us know how it goes.

It is not necessary to take any extra vitamins or minerals before or after the surgery. The procedure is uncomfortable for only a few seconds. No pain, just discomfort. Also your eyes will feel very scratchy the rest of the day. When you wake up the next morning you will be a new man. Don't get scared if your vision gets worse some days. Your vision will fluctuate for a few months after the surgery, nothing dramatic however. I had contacts to. It is wonderful not to have to mess with them! You should stop wearing your contacts 4 days before your surgery. I'm sure your doctor will explain all of this to you. Good luck.

Cornholio,

Had that surgery done 3 years ago. Right eye was 20/200 (corrected to 20/20), the left eye was 20/80 (corrected to 20/15).

I was told that the eyes should NOT be corrected to the same level - quicker degeneration. Considering that your eyes will start to age normally afterwards, you will see a degradation of your eye sight - but over a much longer period of time.

The only side effect I have is the halo effect. Mostly at nite, lights will appear larger than the source - a distortion effect that lessens over a few months, but is still in effect even 3 years later. Small price to pay though.

As for discomfort - I was given a Valium prior to the surgery, operated on for 10 minutes, bandaged up, driven home (1 hour), went to sleep. Woke up the next day - went to the eye doctor to check my vision. My doctor was speechless - near perfect vision and 95% healed in less than 24 hours.

Other than itchy eyes for a few days after the surgery - stay away from smoke (no clubs or bars) for a week. After that - smooth sailing and enjoy your freedom from corrective lenses.

Good luck.

Cornholio, if you mind me asking, how severe is your astigmatism? I looked into the surgery 2 years ago, went through all the testing, and was told that they could do such a severe astigmatism-the particular laser to accomplish this was not yet approved in the US (it was available in Canada) and it might take 18 mos. to get approval. They are supposed to contact me when this happens, but haven't heard a thing. From what I remember, my astigmatism is around 7 diopters and the lasers at the time could only do 5 diopters. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I know of 2 people who had LASIK done-no problems, great results. I want it done SOOO badly-I'm sick of wearing glasses and look like dumb jock/stud (or so I'm told) without them-I'm sick of looking intelligent! :)

I too have been planning to get it done but I was told I should be at least 21 because that is . (Im 20 right now).

Any idea how long the results are supposed to last? Im assuming about 20 years or so

I had PRK done. It was done with a laser. I can't say that I regret having it done but I still need glasses. I couldn't see the big "E" on the eye chart before. Now I can legally drive without glasses (it's not comforatable though)

I'm thinking about having the Lasik procedure to fully correct my vision. Some places near me are doing it for $500 per eye. I paid $2000/eye in 1996 when the procedure came out.

Mexican,

FYI - I had the surgery when I was 25, at the time the minimum age to get the surgery. The rationale behind this is that your eyes are still settling - with your prescription going up and down. Around 25 is when it should level out - and hence a more stable base to do the surgery from.

For 3 months prior to my procedure - I had 4 eye exams - including one the day of the surgery to check, recheck, and confirm the amount of tissue to be removed.

I was told that after 40 years old you might need reading glasses,
just part of the regular aging process.

My doctor also told me not to lift real heavy for the first week after surgery. I lifted at maybe 50-75% of what I normally do, and didn't have any problems.
