who hear has ever been trained to use a knife?

Does it intrest anyone out there?

Does anyone have links, vids or anything they could share?

here is a page that goes over some basics that the marines teach:
http://www.isshin1.com/new_page_12.htm

i saw a couple good movies with knife fighting as the basis. that one with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio del Toro and one with Peter Coyote, kind of old.

yeah they had some cool stuff in that movie.

my friend who is a marine corp martial arts instructor showed me some simple things and we were talking about it and it blew my mind away just thinking about knife fighitng. realizing that im not really prepared for that at all. i like the marine approach because it is very simple and straight forward and will be quick to learn because i know i wont be spending much of my overal time training w/ a knife

some of the cops i talk to have told me they are at a disadvantage if someone has a knife and are within something like 20 ft. of that person. thats with a holstered firearm.

i did some training a while back with this old fillipino guy.. shit was very precise, almost like boxing but with a knife. very tight movements.. and very brutal, almost every move was taught to finish your opponent. even with my limited training.. about 2-3 months, i'd estimate that i'd have at least 3 to 1 odds of beating someone in a knife fight who isn't trained. however, i don't carry a knife (or any weapon) but if somehow i get put in a situation involving one i'd be fairly confident that i'd make it out alive and in tact. i believe the style he was teaching me was kali and offshoots of kali.

ive taken a course on edged weapon awareness and defence,I typed up my notes on here a while back from it,but im not plat so I cant bump it,and I believe I lost that notebook.

I have seen a videao clip of some real knife fights. The dumbass bikers were doing it like a sport. The rules were no stabbing lol. Like what happens for a penalty if you stab the guy "oops my bad, deduct a point from me" while the guy bleeds to death lol.

I have known a couple friends that got in knife fights, in my opinion run if you can.

I thought The Hunted sucked really bad
I'm intersted in knife fighting and have a friend that will teach me
but I'm focusing on hand to hand stuff

im actually not to worried about fighting a guy with a knife 1 on 1 .. i mean i do want practice in that but im also worried about me w/ a knife against multiple people, fighting and having someone pull a knife, etc

and i hope i never see a knife again in a street fight.. i think its for nancies and wish more people just duked it out but you cant think like that and expect to be as prepared as the guy who knows there are screwballs out there and prepares for everything.

oak im gonna search for that post..might pm you w/ a question or two

I Have pretty Extensive training with the Bat Daam Jo , wich are litle more than Long Knives used in Pairs . I also have Sword training , so Im pretty good with the Slicing . heh, at the end of the day, we all got to fly our colors some time so here goes...respect to all styles but i flat out believe that the filipino systems are the final word on knife and stick. Period!

Was privileged to learn some espada y daga from a Filipino friend of mine. Sometimes it gets to the point where, if you knew just who you were dealing with, you'd rather drop the knife...

I've had some knife training and I have had some knife self defense and I feel if I need a knife I will just take it from the other person trying to use it on me. Then I'll cut them up. Just me though.

In hapkido we dissected knife fighting from every angle we could think of. After every lesson we would discuss what we learned and each time the answer was the same. Although you may win against a knife attack the severity and frequency of injury is not worth it. I will only get in a knife fight if there is imminent danger to my wife or kids.

I just started doce pares ( www.docepares.com ) eskrima which is filipino stick and knife fighting 3 weeks ago and also did an amok! ( www.knifefighting.com ) knife fighting seminar last weekend.

I finally decide to do some weapons training, not because i want to use them, but so the next someone pulls a weapon on me i can disarm them, beat the shit out of them then stick it up their fucking ass.

For all you kali/escrima/arnis enthusiasts, I would recommend Filipino Martial Culture by Mark V. Wiley.

It is a truly, truly amazing book which gives an in-depth historical/social/religious background to the Filipino systems and also, loads of very interesting auto-biographical accounts from past and present maestres. Particularly gripping is some of the esoteric-bordering-on-spooky elements which are very much there under the surface...

i dont have time to study an art for knife self defense or offense im just looking for basics. if weapons get involved things are very dangerous and IMO it would take years and years of training for me to feel very confident in defending myself against anyone w/ a knife. but regardless i want to try to cram in some no nonsense attacks mainly incase i come across some crazed huge maniac or a group of them. and of course if someone pulls one on me i would like to know what most untrained people will try with a knife and how to defend it and i then would like to move on to what a semi trained person would do w/ a knife.

again i know i wont have enough time to become very proficient but just adding a few hours here and there will def be fun and should yield some good benefits.

the only new skill ive worked on w/ a knife is if i have a knife and the other guy is unarmed. some basic blocks using an arm and the knife together then a quick series of slashes and stabs to cause as much trama as possible.

i will be getting this instruction from my training partner who teaches marines how to knife fight.

thanks i really enjoyed some of those links

I believe the guys from The Hunted studying Sayoc Kali. I've heard of these guys from my experiences with the Dog Brothers. I can personally attest that Lameco Escrima is considered hot stuff by a lot in the know.

I've personally been in a few knife fights unarmed and just managed to get out of them by the skin of my teeth. And the old addage IS true, "You will get cut." The worst cut I ever got was where I nearly lost a pinky from a guy with a machete.

The Indonesians and Philipinos are really the way to go with knife fighting when you have a knife (although often times you are not instructed on levels of legality and lethality in said classes, something to be taken into consideration).

As for unarmed defense against a knife, I've seen some good stuff. Not going to plug a website, but I highly reccomend you check out the S.T.A.B. program. Top notch material.

hmmmm You see a knife, run!!!! I in MMA we are not trained for any kind of knife fighting you might be able to hold the guys arm try a kimora or armbar to get rid of the knife but there is no guarantee!! I personally hate weapons if I see a knife I'm fucking running!!!. You live to fight another day

yes, you have a knife and the other guy is unarmed.now that is excellent forward thinking and shows good awareness.this is certainly a skill that everyone should practice assiduously.but, generally you will find that when the knives come out the would be multiple attackers are no longer around.cold hard steel has that effect.one important proviso here is, do make sure that the knife is very sharp and fits the bill in size and application of use as producing a small, blunt, cheap weapon to multiple attackers could seriously complicate a very complex situation, considerably.

Although I trained in knife fighting from my filipino friend for about 4 years now and I have gotten really good to a point where I am almost as good as my friend he told me and explained to me that in knife fighting it is very very dangerous and should never be used untill last resort when you feel there is no way out and your life is in serious danger only then should you knife fight because there is no real winners in a knife fight and almost most of the time no matter how good you are you will get cut and the consequences of the law is very strict. Also there is no shame in running away from someone who has a knife dont let your ego keep you there to fight him unless like I said if you have no choice or you are protecting someone you love and have no other option. Plus one more thing not to offend anyone on here but disarming someone with a knife is very very hard to do dont let those steven segal movies fool you to think that disarming someone with a knife is easy and you wont get hurt. Im not saying it cant be done depends on your situation if your fighting a guy who knows nothing of knife fighting or martial arts for that matter then you have a better chance to disarm him but if he knows even a little knife fighting and is very aggressive your best bet is to run. The best knife fighting technique in the world is called reverse magnetism because when you see that blade start running in the opposite direction lol lol......

Exaclty dude!! I will personally run but also depends on the situation etc....

I have trained in Escrima/Kali for about 2 years and can say without a doubt that most of the time, nobody wins a knife fight.

If you want to train with a knife, try this: you and a training partner put on white t-shirts and each get a Crayola magic marker and spar. The marker would be the knife, in which case the "blade" is only the 1/2" tip of the marker, much shorter than any real blade.

Try whatever martial arts technique you want to but at the end, you cant argue with the marks all over your shirts. Thats a good way to simulate knife fighting, it's fun, too.

We also use that training by useing the plastic or rubber knives dipped in red ink while wearing a white or light colored shirt and the person with the most marks is the loser. But we had to modify it by making this trainning session more realistic so the person with the first hit is the winner because in a real knife fight all it takes is one hit and your done.
