Just saw something pretty scary!!!

The bad:

Med Sci Sports Exerc. 1997 May;29(5):615-9.

Exposure to anabolic-androgenic steroids shortens life span of male mice.

Bronson FH, Matherne CM.

Department of Zoology, University of Texas, Austin 78712, USA. [email protected]

Adult male laboratory mice were exposed for 6 months to a combination of four anabolic-androgenic steroids of the kinds and at the relative levels to which human athletes and body builders expose themselves. The four steroids included testosterone, two 17-alkylated steroids, and an ester, and they were given at doses that totaled either 5 or 20 times normal androgenic maintenance levels for mice. By the time the survivors were 20 months old (1 yr after the termination of steroid exposure), 52% of the mice given the high dose of steroids had died compared with 35% of the mice given the low dose and only 12% of the control mice given no exogenous hormones (P < 0.001). Autopsy of the steroid-treated mice typically revealed tumors in the liver or kidney, other kinds of damage to these two organs, broadly invase lymphosarcomas, or heart damage, and usually more than one of these conditions. It can be concluded that the life span of male mice is decreased dramatically by exposing them for 6 months to the kinds and relative levels of anabolic steroids used by many athletes and body builders.

hey ParkerJones,
WTF to do expect from these guys? They're all 60+ yrs of age. I think they look pretty good considering their age.

regards

Search the net for pics of Ed Corney. He competed in one of the Olympia's in the 1990's when he was in his sixties and he looked amazing! You gotta realize, these guys are pretty freakin old now. But for every guy you say looked "old and withered" in the DVD, there was one that looked good. Examples: Bill Grant, Louie, Arnie, Franco (he doesn't look as old as he really is).

im guessing the reason they looked like shit is because they are 60 years old, not because they used aas

the excessive tanning as stated by genarr3 above was also pertinent (sorry bro i have to spread the k before hitting you gain)

cheers

I don't think it is AAS that causes them to age prematurely. Lifestyle has a big impact on aging. They may have stopped working out, drink, smoke (or just be around a lot of smoking), or be in bad health in general (disease, poor genentics), tanning, diet, etc. I doubt it is SIMPLY due to AAS.

No kidding! Dave Draper looks like a million bucks. Zane is about 60 and other than grey hair he looks great. Danny Padilla looks fantastic.

Yea thats true, there are a few guys that still look good, and a few who don't. I'm just worried that by continuing to lead a body-building lifestyle, i'll end up looking like one of those guys.

...."what do you expect they are in their 60's".... cmon now my fucking grandpa is in his late 70's and his face and his overall physicality looks better than katz / waller's

And as far as over tanning is concerned. I gaurentee Arnold has had to of tan twice as much as those guys. Being that he is always in the hollywood spot-light and making movies. But, his skin could look better because of his make-up artist

i dunno

And for whoever said that they don't look healthier because they have more money??

Horse shit. Arnold drops like $1200 for a pedicure. Personal chefs, massagist sp?, doctors, stylist, make-up artist, etc. He pays people to make him look good. The other washed up pro's simply can't afford to do that.

Money can do marvels for someone who is un-healthy or physically un-attractive.

Most of the guys at my gym that juice or have juiced MODERATELY look much younger than their actual age.
