Watching the out-takes of the new pumping iron dvd, it shows a reunion with some of the 70's body-builders and arnold.

Needless to say these guys looked like shit: Mike katz, ken waller, others, there faces looked old and withered, there bodies looked skinny. Im guessing from the years of abuse of gear.

Arnold looks healthy, but one reason I think that is because of all of his surgeries and shit.

I also saw somewhere once a picture, of all of the former and current olympia winner's on stage. And hand ful of the older winners looked shitty. When I say shitty, I mean less healthy than a normal looking person (who doesn't body-build) thats their age.

I don't know it was kind of a minor wake-up call for me I guess, and I think I'm going to question my gear use. Somebody ease my mind please, for a the average user who does 2 moderately dosed cycles a year, they're not gonna end up an un-healthy person right? Like one of the ex-pro's or whatever.

Or is there just not enough info out right now to say? I guess we will find out in 20-30 years when most of us age...........

YUP, AWESOME FILM

I AM GUESSING NOT. THEY ARE JUST GETTING PRETTY OLD. BUT LOOK AT LOU, HE LOOKS GREAT. AND TO CLAIM THEY ABUSED GEAR IS NOT ALL THAT CREDIBLE, THEY DIDNT USE ANYWHERE NEAR THE AMOUNT THE MODERN PROS USE, NOR DID THEY HAVE SUCH VARIETY AT THEIR DISPOSAL. NOR WAS THERE INSULIN, ETC.

Arnold looks healthy, but one reason I think that is because of all of his surgeries and shit.

UM, GUESS AGAIN, HE CLAIMS NOT TO HAVE HAD ANY, AND ONE SHOW HAD SEVERAL TOP SURGEONS ON AND EVEN THEY COULD NOT COME TO A CONSENSUS OF WHETHER HE HAS HAD WORK DONE.

WHAT CAN I SAY, DIFFERENT PEOPLE AGE DIFFERENT WAYS. DO YOU REALIZE HOW OLD THESE GUYS ACTUALLY ARE.

THERE IS PLENTY OF INFO OUT THERE BRO, STOP FREAKING OUT. AND THERE IS ALWAYS GH TO KEEP YOU LOOKING NICE AND YOUNG IF YOU WANT TO.

Sorry for the caps, just wanted to differentiate my comments from yours.

Aren't you jumping the gun a little?
Do you have any idea the lifestyle these guys have led over the years?
Smoking? Other drugs? Years of gear abuse? And did they stop lifting at all?

I don't think you have a whole lot to worry about.

JP...

I know that arnold has had heart surgery and has had the area around the outside of his eyes done. I'm just saying that simply put Arnold and Lou look heathier, because they have a lot more money than the other guys.

We all know about the hear surgery, but that is not really fair to count. Area around his eyes? Prove it. Look at the T3 behind the scene footage without makeup. There are some scenes where his age does show.

Your logic is: Lou and Arnold look healther. Lou and Arnold have money. Therefore Lou and Arnold look healther because they have more money. See the problem, you cant just make that kind of jump.

You're making an invalid conclusion.

There might be something to this. Imagine the amount of food they've eaten in their life time...increased caloric intake has been shown to decrease longevity (in animals at least). So that might have something to do with it.

The good:

Int J Sports Med. 1996 Aug;17(6):429-33.

Body composition, cardiovascular risk factors and liver function in long-term androgenic-anabolic steroids using bodybuilders three months after drug withdrawal.

Hartgens F, Kuipers H, Wijnen JA, Keizer HA.

Netherlands Centre for Doping Affairs (NeCeDo), Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The purpose of this study was to investigate in a cross-sectional design body composition, muscle fiber characteristics, cardiovascular risk factors and liver enzymes in long-term androgenic-anabolic steroids (AAS) using bodybuilders three months after drug withdrawal (AAS group; n = 16) and in non-users (CO group; n = 12). Training and dietary data were collected in all subjects. Anthropometry included weight, height, 8 skinfolds and 11 circumferences. Percentage fat (%FAT), fat mass (FM) and lean body mass (LBM) were calculated. In a muscle biopsy from the vastus lateralis muscle water content, fiber type distribution and diameters of fiber type I and type II were determined. Age, height, training characteristics, nutrition, skinfolds, %FAT and FM did not differ between the groups. The AAS group had greater BW and LBM, and larger circumferences of thorax, waist, upper arm and thigh than the CO group. Muscle biopsy data were comparable, except for muscle fiber diameter of type I which was larger in the AAS group. No differences in serum values of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides, nor in systolic and diastolic blood pressure were observed. In both groups serum alkaline phosphatase and gamma GT were within the normal range. This study suggests that in long term AAS using body-builders, after a three months AAS free period, BW is greater than in non drug users. This is reflected in larger LBM, circumferences and diameter of muscle fiber type I. In addition, no differences in fat mass, blood pressure, lipoprotein profiles and liver enzymes exist between AAS users three months after interrupted drug use and their non drug using counterparts.
