Never been a member. I was at Anytime until I moved here to St. Cloud MN, and that club sucked. So I checked out the golds and joined immediately. Even though I didn't feel to well, I had the best workout in a good month. DB's over 100# they go to 150 even! I am stoked. Might not have all the eye candy, but fuck if I care. I go to train, not to socialize and be distracted.

Any other Golds members? Thoughts, experiences?

I go to Golds. Tossing the iron around is all i need. They opened a few new ones in the area and they have swimming pools and basketball courts and stuff. Definitely a lot nicer. A a cardio theatre where you get to watch a movie while doing cardio.

Dang bro. Where u live, the Hamptons?

golds is legit now, too bad its not like it used to be when arnold an franco worked out there.

Sounds better than mine - We arnt aloud to put the close neutral grip v bar over the pullup bar because it scratches the paint. I got told off for dropping a 50lb'er yesterday when doing farmers walk. I got told off for dropping a 10kg plate when quickly taking weight off a CGBP to do a dropset. Also theres two sets of DB's, chrome ones that go up to 50lbs then some other ones in KG that go up to 40kg. Thing is though, theres only one 45lb db lol

I switched to a gym similar to Golds that has all the equipment you can imagine. Cardio theater, basketball, everything. Not that I do any of that, lol. But it is nice to go some where that all the db's are not bent and they go up to 150's as well. It has help me put alittle more size on I think. My old gym all the dumbells and barbells were bent from dumbasses dropping them all the time.

I'm at a Golds as well. Lots of great equipment, etc. But most importantly, I like to see all the different types that are working out. From the soccer moms trying to stay fit, to some really intense BBers and PLers - and everyone gets along. Management has done a lot to make sure that everyone is comfortable.

Is it perfect, no. We still have some douchebags, but so does the rest of the world.

I was a Gold's member once...

Great facility with lot's of equipment but I never meshed well with the crowd there and the manager disliked me from day 1. I eventually got kicked out do to what he felt to be an inappropriate display of enthusiasm. (No, nothing was said that wasn't work safe.)

Can't knock their overall concept, though. Hope you have better luck with yours.

golds can be great gyms. i loved the one i used to go to long ago till it closed on a wednesday for no reason and never reopened.

my gym now is perfect so im much happier. pretty surprised to hear that most gyms only go up to 150s in dbs though.

Alot of golds are turning into pussy gyms around here sadly, they don't take kindly to "hardcore" training. Most gyms seem to be doing this now though just because thats the type of clientele they want.

It is purely a matter of economics. They can book a lot more soccer mom memberships than they can "hardcore" members. I am friends with the manager at my Golds, and even though they have a guy there who placed in the top 10 in WSM last year as a trainer, that type of member only accounts for less an 2% of the total membership.

Next add to that mix, that for CapEx, the makers of machines like treadmills and ellipticals allow gyms to lease the equipment, while companies that make free weights and other "iron" products generally require outright purchase.

In short, it is cheaper to serve a soccer mom client than it is a "hardcore" client (at least until the purchased equipment is paid for and fully depreciated).

Finally, the soccer mom or general fitness member is more likely to buy add on high profit services like personal training, day care, etc.

the golds in my town sucks...the dumbells only go to 70 pounds cuz these dumbasses were droppoing the heavy ones on their feet..plus its always packed in there 24/7...absolutly the worst gym ive ever been a member of....the only good thing was a blowjob i got from one of the zumba instructors in the locker room...even after that there was no way in hell i was going to stay there

I know it sucks but thats the way it is. I wish they just didnt give us serious trainers shit. Who is the WSM pro, jason bergman?

i go to... the garage... theyve got dumbells up 190lbs... havent seen anyone grab them though

my current gym goes up to 200s. in college i trained at diamond gym, john kempers place (if you know who he is, hes an ifbb judge). alot of top level amateurs and pros there. went up to 220 or 230 for the big guys.

agree. Golds is still pretty hardcore for a commercial gym- they allow chalk, rubber-coated plates for oly lifters & deadlift platform & get pro-athletes (LA Kings, SM rugby team) & pro BBdrs (Chris Cormier, Bob Cicceralla) to train there. The non-athletes hangout by the SMith Machines so its all good! lol
