is it legal for the news station to advertise their link with my fiances domain name without having bought it yet?

I can't see why it wouldn't be. She's getting free advertisement right now so that can't be bad, right? I guess if they were leading people to believe they owned the linked site and that misrepresentation caused loss somehow for your lady, then she could sue.
