Is this an ok pre-bedtime snack?

12 oz of 1% milk
1/2 pack of Met-Rx MRP
2 TBSP of natural peanut butter

Calories -> 510
Protein -> 46g (36% calories from protein)
Carbs -> 36g (28% calories from carbs)
Fat -> 20g (35% calories from fat)

It'll also have 5g of creatine.

It's pretty close to being a 33/33/33 meal. I'd like to have a little fat in the drink (it's good fat) because it takes longer to absorb and since I sleep for about 7 hours, it won't leave me completely starving when I wake up.

I am currently lifting heavy and trying to gain weight. Daily caloric intake is about 3000 calories.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Sonny

That seem like quite a few calories just before bed, but if you're a hard gainer, then I guess it's okay. I would go with skim milk to cut out some bad fat. Viva makes a skim milk (pink label) that they add something to it to make it creamier...it tastes more like 2%. I would also try to cut out most of those carbs. Maybe replace the MRP with a protein shake. Something with casein protein would be best since it digests slowly.

I usually have a protein shake and a TBSP of natural PB or flax oil before I hit the sack. I think it helps keep my metabolism running, and gives my body the nutrition it needs to rebuild while I sleep. I haven't noticed any increase in body fat since I started doing this...maybe even a little decrease. I've been making pretty good gains lately too, so give it a try. Just keep the PB under control…it’s addicting!

Good luck with your goals!

Hey man:

Thanks for your input. :D

I could do the same thing with Optimum Whey instead of the Met-Rx. That would drop the calories down a bit and also cut the carbs down, too.

I figured Met-Rx would be a better choice though because whey absorbs pretty fast.

My other problem is that I have strawberry flavored optimum whey and it tastes pretty gross when mixed with peanut butter. I tried it. :p

I personally think cottage cheese is one of the best pre-bedtime snacks you can have. I usually have a 16oz serving -- 60g of slow digesting protein! :D

I believe i've read on here from numerous sources that eating fat & protein together doesn't neccessarily slow down the digestion of the protein, you might want to research that on your own though.
