How many of you think this is a safe exercise?

YouTube video link:

The "Bradstock" Jump Squat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPUN1C7V3B0

I have been a personal trainer for over 20 years, have trained numerous Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champions and World Record Holders. I am a two time Olympian and two time World Record holder ( in the javelin throw ). I was born with spina bifida, am now 46 and am still competing. I have never had any back or knee surgery or taken steroids. This is the only lower body weight exercise I do.

Thoughts? Comments?

atleast hes in the box and has the gaurds raised. so if somthing does go wrong hes still pretty safe. ive seen people do jumping squats before just never with that much weight

What is the point of doing it? There is very little range of motion almost the same as doing calf raises with greater chance of back injury. I am sure it offers a benefit to a javelin thrower, but to a bodybuilder or pwr lifter, I am not sure about. JMHO.

I wouldn't suggest it. There is limited ROM and that's alot of weight/ impact on your back/ spine when landing.

If you want to train for explosiveness do power cleans and jump shrugs. When done properly they increase your explosiveness and work everything.
