Is this a Pain Killer problem?

I know this post probably does not belong here but I really value the opinons and insight that most of this board's members bring.

I have been using Vicoden to deal with some pain problems ive been having, nothing too serious but I do have some issues with knees and tendons in my elbows. Not talking Brett Farve like, but ive been taking no more than 2 750's a day for the last month or so. I dont think I risk becoming addicted at this dose but I am wondering if anyone has any insight with this drug. I mean I dont crave them, but in the evenings a pill or two helps with soreness, anyone have history with this painkiller or have any advice? Think im ok but just wondering...thanks bros.......

Physical dependence and addiction are two different things. With opioids there is always the risk, and in fact the probability, of physical dependnece to a certain degree.

Now in your case I would imagine that this dependence is very slight at the moment. You can easily taper down from your current dose, which is what I recommend.

If you are taking three pills a day (which I assume you are by now) simply start to taper by cutting out one pill per day per week.

So next seek take two a day, and the week after one a day, and you're done.

Now let me tell you that I use opioids frequently and strictly for recreation. I am very very familiar with this stuff, and I will tell you that if you quit cold turkey you still should only have VERY mild withdrawals which will surface after the first 24 hours if at all.

In your case this will only be a slightly flu-ish feeling, a little tired and irritable at most. So you could just quit if you are really concerned about it.

Tapering, however, provides a more solid psychological foundation on which to build your mental position of quitting.

A word of warning here: Hydrocodone is NOT an indicator of how addictive oxycodone is. Do not be fooled into thinking that oxy is just as easy to lick. It ain't.

You're dealing with opioids Bro, which is an entirely different story when it comes to physical addiction. Heroin is an opioid. Oxycotin is an opioid. If you gave 10 people Heroin everyday for a month you'll have 10 heroin addicts. It's not like alcohol or cocaine. Not everyone that drinks heavily becomes an alcoholic but the same does't apply to those that use opioids. There is withdrawal peroid that makes it difficult to stop cold turkey. Most people have to tritate their dose down over a few weeks. Good luck with it.

I agree totally with the two posts above. Also, the pain you are feeling may be directly related to the opiods. The longer you use it, the more dependant upon it you will become. Stop now, and let your body heal.

good posts-people addicted or even dependant on opiods can have seizures if they try to cold turkey. At your dose it doesnt yet sound like a problem but you can start to need them to sleep so it could be better not to take right at bed but a couple hours before. This is the problem i had. So long as i wasnt thinking about them/the pain i didnt feel i needed them. Never had a draw to any of the codeines, even the morphine during a recent op didnt do squat :) Ibuprofin was the only wonder pill that helps me with every pain except spinal/nerve then vicos or hydro but the just make me feel like crap and only mild help for the pain.

Your body will actually cause "phantom" pains to trigger the reward response of the opiates. It will suck for about 6-9 days tops really if you are working out and getting that rush. I find anything that raises my seratonin/ dopamine levels seems to help. When the cravings kick in take some ephedrine and hit the gym, something. you will not be able to sleep well. just be active trhough it. It helps.
