Is tanning really that bad for you???

Haha believe whatever you want. All is required is common sense and to look at people who've been using those things for years. Any radiation in such a high intensity dose is bad news. You don't have to be a genius to figure it out.

I'm not jumping into an oven either.. or a microwave for that matter ;)

i have never understood the appeal of tanning beds either. they look like coffins. coffins where you are bombarded with radiation. i will never buy they are not unhealthy.

if you want to get some sun. take a walk in the sun. nothing wrong with having skin that is a little pale and not tanned.

First, vitamin D is what you get from the sunlight. Second, there are two kinds of UV rays(UVA-UVB). The UVA comes from tanning beds, lamps ect.. the UVB comes from natural sunlight. Both are considered bad for your skin. It takes very little natural sunlight to get the amount of vitamin D that you need. Just thought I would throw that out there.

UVA inhibits your skin's ability to repair itself. UVB from the sun does damage, but does not affect you like UVA so your skin can still repair itself. Tanning beds are fine if you don't go out in the sun anymore because you don't need to repair any UVB damage (cause you wouldn't be able to if you did). And the sun is fine if you don't use tanning beds. With that said, and the fact that sunlight helps your body produce it's own vitamin D (there is no actual vitamin D in sunlight), sunlight is better for you because it doesn't inhibit your skin's ability to repair itself. I emailed my professor for the exact mechanisms on this, and if anyone disagrees, I will be happy to post it for your uneducated ass :p .

I picked this post to respond to because it's a good one and the base for what I just posted. K to you bro.

anybody every heard of a pill that increases melenan in your skin i read an article about it in a mens health mag don't know if it ever became available though.

The "appeal" is that they allow someone to achieve a desired look (what is desired by them, not you) in a fraction of the time that it would take to sit out in the sun.

There's a lot of nonsense being thrown around in here. Tanning isn't healthy (at least not if you're doing it to the extent that most people go tanning are), but if you ARE going to tan, beds are safer.

Awww... I feel bad for ign'ant people.

UVA and UVB can ONLY penetrate the dermis and epidermis. Tose are only two of the many layers in the skin.. so no, it can't fry you.
And it's not Vitamin A... it's Vitamin D.

Gamma radiation.... UV rays..... Two different things.

Read the Sun Advantage. Those are my sources. You can also ask a few dermatologists.
I suggest you check it before you wreck it. ;)

If it's so much safer why don't you hope in one with your eyes open and see what happens. It's not safe in the least. It funny how people who own a business claim to be experts on a subjects just b/c they own the business. Funny shit. No educational proof what so ever.

You don't stare at the sun with no protection either. WTF is your point?

To save everyone from the myths of tanning:
-Tanning is actually HEALTHY for you. It's a natural protection from overexposure.
-Tanning beds are SAFER because it's a controlled environment. Outside cannot be predicted how much exposure can cause burning de to the everchanging factors including pollution, climate, ozone, etc.
-Tanning can cause skin cancer only if you are underexposing or over exposing yourself.
-Premature aging can be prevented by using an indoor tanning lotion.
Tanning is my biz along with Pilates.

right :worried:

You obviously didn't read my last post; either that or you're ignoring it. If you like tanning beds then that's fine, but that doesn't mean they are safer. Why don't you address what I wrote a few posts up and tell me how it's safer.
