Is tanning really that bad for you???

The point is that tanning beds are NOT better for you than the sun. Medical evidence suggests that they are in fact worse. Most things that deviate from nature usually are.

Yes, tanning beds are bad. I believe they have 100 times the harmful UV rays of the sun. I think a lot of it has to do with your skin tone, I'm a cracker, tanning is a very bad idea for me. If someone had darker skin I think they adapt to it easier and it is less harmful.

That ENTIRELY depends on the type of bed you use....I only use Ultra Bronz Super High Pressure....It completely splits up the UVB and UVA rays completing eliminating the bad harmful one that produces all harmful UV Rays.....Therefore, also, almost making it impossible to burn...simply darken.....GREAT BED--very pricey though!!!

Wow, that's so funny. You hear more about people dying from skin cancer where I'm originally from (England) than America and they are found in parts not usually exposed to sunlight...
something to think about.

Bro, I'm not trying to flame but I've never seen a fair study comparing the two, and have heard that, the amount of tan obtained being equal, a quality tanning bed is in fact safer.

The only way to compare the two would be to use two huge study groups comparing similar skin types and comparable amount of UV exposure (IOW not comparable times exposed to each type). To my knowledge such a study doesn't exist.

Much of the empirical evidence available centers around the fact that in the general population tanning bed users probably average probably 2 to 10 times more UV exposure than those who don't use beds. (In fact, most adults get so little exposure to natural sunlight that my understanding is that the average person spends more time in the sun during their childhood than the next 50 plus years of life.) Also, most of the evidence cited doesn't seem to take into account that there is any benefit at all to UV exposure.

i see you dumbasses walk though the doors everyday at the tanning salon I manage.... yes it will cause skin cancer and premature aging...

Well my point is you can stare at the sun long without damage to your eyes you get in a tanning bed without protection on your eye you won't use them again period. Please use a little common sensed if your going to post if not please save me the trouble of responding to stupid people

A tanning bed is stronger than the sun, hence the reason you don't have to go in one for as long to see the desired results. Stare at the sun for an hour and you're going to mess your eyes up too.

Also, for the most part people DO wear eye protection in the tanning beds, whereas they are less likely to in the sun. Your argument is analogous to saying "Don't drive a car. If you think it's safe, try driving at 150mph around a sharp corner." Is that a safe pursuit? Of course not, but if you're not doing it, it's highly irrelevant, is it not?

Even if you were trying to flame me you're just flaming yourself. Did you read the links I posted by reputable medical communities? I've posted legitimate evidence. Where's yours?

The people dying from skin cancer are found in parts not usually exposed to sunlight???? Or are the cancers found in parts not usually exposed to sunlight??? Wouldn't this suggest that it's probably from tanning beds where the whole body is exposed? Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to imply here.
