if you are given too much change back or charged incorrectly to not go back to the store and say hey sorry you made an error in my favour I owe you xyz?

It happend to my twice recently both time I didn't notice tell I left the store but never went back. I feel guilty about it.

not unless it was a great amount. if only a dollar or two then fine. I would if it were like 10 dollars.Poor people need to count their drawers at end of shit, and i would hate them to get fired because of my selfish acts

Tonight it was like $13 dollars my reciept was correct but my debit transaction was not. Last weekend I got given about $5 in incorrect change but I though i had given her a $10 not a $5 at the store then I looked in my wallet and there was a $10 so I must have gave her the $5 so basically she gave me my my protien smoothie for free. I feel guilty but not cause it was wrong so much as the fact that I am worried about bad karma.

if it was a debit card then there really is no way for her to know at the end of the night that her drawer is short. if it were cash i would bring it back. I guess you shouldnt be so concerned. just hope that this girl doesnt do it to often.

Thief!

I meant Thief! eh?

I took back a box of crayons I didn't get charged for because they were under the dog food and the slacker was too lazy to pick it up out of the cart. By slacker I mean me.

I worked retail we added up all our debit and cc recipts at the end of the night. She will know about it but she was new I could tell hope she doesn't get fired over it. I feel bad yet good at the same time means I got to skirts for $10 rather then 2 for $20 I love good deals.

She was young like 17-18 getting fired might build character.

depends on the situation. as others have said, i dont like the idea of a clerk feeling the repercussions of not balancing their till so taht i could get away with a few bucks...even though i roll my eyes at people stuffing stuff like that up. also, i wont take advantage of a family business.

on the other hand, if a large business misprices something so that i get it cheaper than i should, even if they lose huge amounts of money, then i throw my head back and laugh. they have as little sympathy for me, and so reciprocation is meet.

I have received too much once. I was at a party, and paid $5 for my beer cup, and gave the guy a $20 bill. He gave me back $15 and my $20 bill by accident. I corrected him when I had the money in my hand and was about to put it away.
Kinda funny, show up to a kegger and get paid $15 :) But I try to be an honest/upright person, so I cant accept money like that.

And I've been on the other end where i've given too much away:
One time at TacoBell after my shift in the drive thru my drawer was almost 20 bucks short. ( i think i must have given a large bill away by accident, lol)
But I didnt get fired over it. Just wasnt allowed to do drive thru for quite awhile :) so they had me work front register where the pace wasnt as rushed.

Oh there was another time too,
One time I gave money and didnt get enough back, and couldnt get it.

At a club i gave a woman a $10 bill for a drink that was $4.25. She gave me back 75 cents, i waited for her to pull some bills out too, but she just put the money away. then i said: excuse me, i still need $5. She said: no, u gave me a $5, and i gave you your change. I tried to argue with her but the music was way too loud, and the argument wasnt going anywhere and i couldnt prove shit, so i gave up. the dumb bitch probably just wanted to keep the change as a tip or something.

To me, it's all about character. What do you do in situations when only you know the truth? I know when I do this, like correcting a cashier, it does my soul good :)

that was nice of you QT.
you may have saved her job for all you know- something worth a lot more than $13.

i recently made a big purchase and the girl just forgot to ring me up. she did everything else, took my card, put the stuff in the bag, etc. handed me back my card and told me to have a nice day.
it was a few hundred dollars worth of stuff (close to 1000), so for a split second I was tempted to just go, but I can't do that. i told her.

you'll be happy you did that qt. :)

Because of this she'll probably get fired. Since the economy is rough right now, the only way she'll be able to support her kids and her cancer-ridden mother is to start selling herself to men for money.

She's probably a religious girl so this'll disgust her and she'll start doing heroin to dull the anguish. Finally she wont be able to deal with it any more, and she'll just kill herself, leaving her infant children and terminally ill mother to be evicted and live as street hobo's.

When Oprah does her life story on her show, her producers will track back her firing to your undercharge. Your picture will be on the front page of TV Guide along side the sweet religious girl who's life you ruined. Ricki Lake will play you in the movie version of the best selling book based on the story, and the phrase "to QT somebody" will become street slang for fucking somebody over.

So to answer your question, no it's fine.

you just condemned a religious girl to a life of drug addiction and prostitution inevitably ending in her suicide and all you care about is who plays you in the frigging movie?

Pretty much :verygood:

Don't feel guilty. Look at it as a way of leveling itself out for everytime someone makes a profit off of you when you purchase something. If you didn't deliberately deceive or con this person who gave you incorrect change back then my conscious would be clean. If however it was an exhuberant amount I may decide on giving it back.

i read something in the news about a guy who had $80,000,000 placed into his bank account accidently. He did the right thing and reported it. Sucks that he didn't get to keep any of it.

I suppose if he hadnt reported it and got found out though, that wouldnt be good!

i figure that for everytime someone has given me more change than i needed, I have been short changed an equal amount of times, so it all evens out.

Talk about fucking Karma I lost $15 last night no shit that is about the same amount as I got in miss charges and over changed.

My total was $4.05 at the post office and I paid with a 5. The lady gave me $4.05 back in change! I just looked at it for a sec thinking there's no way this'll fly, and I was right. It's not worth it in any case of wrong change, big or small. Big, they're gonna notice, eventually, and assume you knew too but didn't care to be honest. Small change- what, like you wouldn't go spend that tiny extra bit of money on something stupid anyway. Oh sweet, she gave me back too much change, and you know what, your self worth lowers to whatever amount was overcharged if you walk out with it. Fuhgeddaboudit.

Here's an example of how bad my add is: I used the U-Scan at the g-store recently and selected $20 cash back from the screen....but by the time it printed my receipt and I picked up my bags I had already forgotten about it. It even says to please remember to take your change located below the blah blah blah where's my mind. I only remembered that I even requested cash back when I looked in my wallet the next day and didn't see that twenty.

My son took $20 out of my wallet and tried to pass it off as his own. What should I do about that?

That's flawed logic if there ever was. Didn't you read wootool's post? Poor religious girl? Bastard.

I'd say if I was on a road trip and neither person knew at the time and it's a trivial amount, then it's basically a bust. Fuck it. And if it was a large amount it should've been realized at the time. But if it's someplace you always go no matter what the amount, it's not worth getting a hard on for screwing over the clerk by a couple bucks. Shit I've burned through hundreds at the casino when I was in college on a budget (if you could call it that) and thought oh well. Money comes and goes, it's not like each piece of money is irreplacable. If it wasn't we'd all be dead.

It's okay QT...you will be gypped somewhere down the road and not notice til' it's too late, so it will all balance out in the end.

The Cashier has to make up the short and his/her wages are low.

I always take the over money and the sales receipt back to Customer Service or to the Cashier if I know them.

Most places I worked where there was a cash there was a slush fund to cover that from when you over charged people.

i had a similar thing happen to me once. I found $2 in the parking lot and kept it.

The next day $3, somehow magically disappeared from my wallet.
