Intimidation Factors

USMC fighter

New member
Just wanted to share something i was thinking about the other day. I was thinking about the differance between what used to intimidate me when i was younger, and what gains my respect now. When younger, a guys size or his build used to intimidate, tattoos, nasty or crazy look on his face, bold talking, that kinda crap used to intimidate. Now that im older and just a bit smarter, certain things clue me in to a person that deserves a little bit of respect, such as, being very soft spoken with a lot of physical grace or confidence, scar tissue around the eyes, califlower ears, way flattened nose, how a person scans a crowd or looks you over, posture, that kind of thing. They a subtle clues, but clues that scream fighter none the less. Its funny but when i met a very close friend of mine for the first time, i asked him what he practised without knowing or hearing anything about him pryor. I just got a vibe off him i guess, he seemed suprised and pleased at the same time, and it turned out he indeed was a high level, martial artist. Anyway i just wanted to share these thoughts with you all and get your thoughts also.

Intresting thoughts. I think you are right on about the disciption of someones who is truly tough. Just like that one guy cant rember his name somthing Vito (bad ass biker). It the guys that dont say anything and just hurt you that you need to watch out for. Not the ones that yell up a storm.

I think you're talking about Chuck Zito. He was president of one of the chapters in New York of the HA's'.He's a natural KO machine and has extensive combat and martial arts training and was probably kicking ass since he was about 5 y/o..LOL
He handed Van Damme's ass to him when he was getting too cocky and disrespectful at Scores strip joint.Van Damme get's slammed
:smash: LMAO
I think most of the Hollywood fighters would lose to proficient MMArtists or skilled boxers, oh except for Sly stallone
The only one I think is at par would be Jet Li and maybe Chan when he was younger. Jet Li woud fair well against most fighters, since he has tons of experience in various styles of MA, lightning fast reflexes, and has won many prestigious competitions.
Although he did modestly admit that he would get his ass kicked by most of the fighters in "Cradle to the Grave".I still think he would come on top in his weight class.

to me, it's like that guy said in Gigli (yes I watched it!) when someone just dosn't give a shit
that's scarey
if I punch him in the face and he continues forward to land a bodyshot
knowing he isn't scared of me, scares me somewhat

when I saw some footage of Ortiz going after Shamrock , I think Tito lost that fight? but reguardless, he was going after Shamrock with a smile on his damn face...that shit scared me

oh and grapplers in general
I find that intimidating cus on the ground I panic
in standup tho I don't really care someone can be bigger stronger faster and more experienced and I'l spar them I'm fine
odd..
oh and another thing, I get braver the worse the odds are
I would rather fight 3 guys then 1 in general
I would definatly rather fight 3 thugs then 1 skilled fighter but I think tha'ts normal, I'd prefer more people, for whatever reason that relaxes me

oh and yelling, man if someone yells at me that'll scare me, it's really odd I'm not sure what's up there

It's the quiet ones you got to worry about. They are the ones that if attacked will do anything to protect themselves...bite, stab, shoot, dislodge an eyeball...etc

if you are watcthing for shiat, then shiat might happen. i wait until , a fight might happen, then i size the person up

I agree.......... I have had numerous amounts of training in martial arts, boxing and now grappling, and I can tell just by looking at a person if they are a trained fighter.

good post

seems like the bigger the talker the weaker the fighter - at least in my experiences anyway.

Yeah, if you know you can fight, there's no need to talk. You just show them.

i fought about a mounth ago in lancaster ohio the show was huge, i just got done working 11 hours. the guy i fought was all reasted up and pumped a little to pumped, he was telling everybody that he was going to kill me out in the ring, but i just let it fly by me i was ready. i knew it but he didnt he was inbarrised when the match only lasted 15 sec he couldent take a punch,i hit him in the ribs 2 and the face 1 and he tapped he waid 15 to 20 pounds more than me.i will show tape when i get it ok. so your right all talk no action. so i agree whit you. look up hammer house fighting im the 8th fight on march 4 2005

yeah big mouths, people who are always with a big crew, flashing jewelery, pointing and yapping are normally not as much of a threat as the

quiet types, swollen knuckles, cuts on the hands/head, shaved/buzzed head types..those are the ones that normally have more of a chance of having done some training.. but you never know..

but i have never ever in my life had another real martial artist worth there weight start or insticate a fight with me or anyone i know.. martial artist know how to fight and they do it every nite at class... not at the club/bar

i normally assume that if someone is starting an arguement with me over me being short, looking funny or someone bumping into them then they are not a trained fighter..

but never ever ever make the mistake of underestimating ANYONE once it comes to a physical altercation. as soon as its time for a fight.. fight like your life depends on it.. cause it does..

stay safe!

people who dwarf me scare me,Im short 5'6 at 195,most people dont intimidate me that way, plus I hide it well because showing weakness in my job isnt a option.

so my final answer is weapons or people who have nothing to lose

Someone’s attitude gains my respect, confidence and lack of fear can be seem miles away. A guy that walks with a firm step, speaks softly but carries a loaded shot gun (true MA experience) is someone who should not be fucked with. That is also a person that will never fuck with you.
