Interracial marriage

Who here is interracially married? Any mixed kids also?

What, if any, problems or circumstances have you have to deal with because of it? (I am white but g/f is black, wanted to know what to expect if we decide to get married)
 
In Texas? Good luck with that! Tons on interracial married peeps where I live. Don't think it's a big deal here.
 
not such a big deal anymore....Eurasian and milk chocolate babies are all the rage at the moment
 
it's a lot easier if the families are cool with it. I felt less "stress" hanging with my FB in Austin than I did in atlanta but more than I would in L.A. People couldn't care less here. My current gal is biracial and she's dated both sides.

who gives a shit- if ur parents are gunna cut u off for trying to be happy and follow ur heart, then they arnt the best of people in the first place.

Parents might be a problem though, at least in the beginning
 
I don't see why it would upset anyone. But I suppose there will always be ignorant jackasses who have ugly commentary to make.
 
I have a Jordanian friend that has a white girlfriend (they just had twin boys) and his mom was fine with it (but nagging for them to get married) and his dad at the beggining wasnt really happy about it. But it all turned out good. Parents have to understand that in this country people from all over the world live here and sometimes there IS gonna be mixing between races or nationalities

You can't beat having an exotic piece of skirt as your side-kick!!! Makes you feel way superior to all the other guys as you catch them looking at her and you think "She's way out of your league buddy". then, 6 months later you realise she does what all other women do....wrecks your head.
 
the only thing that you can control is how strong your relationship is with your SO..take care of that and youll be able to get through any circumstances that should arise

I remember one time when I was a kid, a friend of my Mom brought a white lady over who was about marry a black man. The lady wanted to know the same thing you are asking; what she could expect. There came a knock on the door and Mom answered it. Moms friend walked in first. The lady that she was bringing over smiled at my Mom and said, "Hi, my name is..." and WHAM!!!! My Mom slams the door in her face! Mom waited for a few seconds and then opened the door. When the lady turned around my Mom said, "If you are willing to put up with the feeling you have right now from time to time for the rest of your life, then marry the man." She invited the lady in and they all had a long conversation. To this day I have no idea what about or if the lady ever married the guy.

Another memory I have on this is at my babysitters’ house when I was a child. Big "Aunt Jemima" looking black lady, Miss Ade I called her. I loved her to death, truly a great lady. Anyway, my Mom comes to pick me up one day and Miss Ade was looking very annoyed. Mom says, “What’s wrong Miss Ade”? She looks at Mom and says, “My niece is going to marry a white man”. Mom says, “So, I thought you liked white people?” Miss Ade says, “O’honey, I do like you’ all. I just don’t think we should marry you.”

Point is Dave, some white people might not like it and some black people might not like it. Where you live matters only in the frequency of the prejudice you will face. Rest assured you will face it. Not only you and your wife, but your kids will face it as well. It will be much tougher on them.

But, I’m a firm believer that if you do what is in your heart; you and your miss will be just fine.

my ex is black/white , I have a kid with her...we are probably gonna get back together and she will probably be the woman I marry. I have a daugther with her so my daughter is 1/4 white, 1/4 italian, 1/4 cuban, 1/4 black....it was never a racial issue family wise as both our families arent the racist type...very open minded.
 
I weep that this thread is even necessary.
I greatly admire any biracial couple with the guts to follow their love. One at a time, through their example, they are changing this world for the better.

nah, italians can dance/have rythmn and we dont have little pee-pees ...so i say its not white. but technically you are correct...although I usually think of white as anglo saxon type/irish/english type.

i didnt say italians are closer to black, i said they are italian. I think Italians fall into a slightly different racial category than your standard white person.
 
I agree with VC, where you live will only affect the amount of prejudice you experience. As far the public goes, the stares and, if applicable, comments will continue. If you made it this far without letting that affect you, then don't worry about that.

I find with family, they are cool with when you are just having sex or dating (they think it is phase and you will grow out of it). When things get serious and has the possibly to lead to marrige, then that is when there is a shift in attitude. This is when the strength of your relationship is tested. If this is the woman you want to spend the rest of YOUR life with, then go with your heart and do what makes you happy.

I think what he is saying is that Italians (as well as other European cultures along the Mediterranean Sea) are not WASPs.

It is going to be harder for you especially in Texas. Your kids are going to get it worse than ya'll will. It would be great to think the world is color blind but we all know it isn't. I guess superdave if you love her love will overcome the obstacles in ya'lls path. God bless you both.

My mom is actually mexican and my dad italian.

It was all cool for the most part. Some part that are hard for the kids is "where do you fit in" the mexican kids don't think you are mex and the white kids aren't quite like you... but eventually you figure it out.

It can be kind of rough when peeps make jokes and don't know you are what the butt of the joke is...

But mostly it is all good bro. I don't think it matters any more.

I was walking by the park the other day (in the city) and there were white kids, black kids, mexican, chinese, middle eastern all playing some game together out there... I was like, man, that would make a great picture. For most people, especially the younger generations, I think racism is mostly dead.

For every person that is an asshole, I am sure you will find at least 20 that don't care.
 
When my parents first started dating they were considered an interracial couple. Pop is Italian, Mamaduke is Irish [with some Polish thrown in there I believe].

So the elder close minded folk would consider me a mutt. Over time though it gets easier. Uncle married an Irish woman. Aunt married an Irish guy. A cousin is pretty serious with a Cambodian chick. My brother is engaged to a French Irish girl. We drew the line with Frenchie [jk]. I get involved with women from various backgrounds. Step-sister dated a black guy. If your family cares about you, then they'll accept it.

Granted at the family parties I have to watch my Full Metal Jacket references more so than before. ;)
 
My brother is married to a girl thats half white and half thai. Its so damn funny because he rags on her constantly with derogatory Asian jokes and racial slurs. They have a great relationship.

I might date a hispanic or asian but I don't think I would ever marry one. I don't find black women appealing at all so I guess I will never have to worry about putting my family through that ordeal.
