inclines 101

did inclines today for the first time ever. Ive been having shoulder discomfort during flat, but had none during inclines. I think i might start hitting the inclines harder. I did a search on inclines but only a few posts came up. So i apoligize for asking this question but what exactly is the pros and cons of the incline?
 
Pros: Many. Great for chest development if you are a bodybuilder.

Cons: They don't do them in PL competitions.

Flat hurts my shoulders too.

I've switched totally to DB lifts all angles for chest due to Shoulder Pain when doing BB flat, incline or decline..

the difference is this.

incline works more chest and shoulders.

flat works more chest and triceps.

so there you go.

depends on what angle you do them at, a lesser angle will only minimally ( is that a word ) hit the shoulders, if i want to hit the chest as much as possible no more than 30 degrees...
 
I've been thinking about doing them close grip, just for another tricep accessory movement.
 
I think BB inclines actually gave me a minor rotator injury.
After lots of rotator re/pre-hab work and learning to tuck the elbows on when bench pressing in general, I can incline with no pain at all.

Pretty simple - inclines focus more on the upper pec, flats focus on the middle pec, and declines on the lower pec, and crossovers on the inner pec
