So then, what is and is not acceptable? Who gets to decide it? Anything I or anyone says or does here is going to piss off, bother or other wise annoy someone. So, all it takes is for someone to complain about anything and it's gone?
Well, here is a more precise answer.
I take a stand on a few things here -- not on everything.
First, Anabolic Steroid Discussion is welcome. This is obvious I know, but it was not so obvious in 1995 when I invented the Anabolic Discussion Board format. This was pretty controversial back then.
I do not allow hate speech.
Women post here and not on the other Internet fitness boards because I work hard to make them welcome. We have not always had women here, and the fact that we do is something I consider a success.
African Americans have and will always be welcome here. In fact, I just deleted some of the silly posts like the "Black Santa" post. If I was black and showed up here in the last few days, I would think I was at a clan rally.
Gays and lesbians have always been welcome here. From the beginning, I have run an Anabolic and HIV discussion board. It is not as busy as I would like, but it has been here for a long time. I do not know for sure, but I bet there are no "out" gays or lesbians on the other boards -- because they are not welcome. This too has been controversial, but I myself do not understand why.
Some of the things that get deleted are absolutely subjective. This is elitefitness.com and the .com means commercial. So it is a good bet that if someone is going to come here and make posts like those by "Dr.Poopy" or "EVILWHITEHETEROGUY" that they will get banned. I can see only one purpose to those types of posts -- that of hurting my business. And if someone comes here and actively tries to decrease my membership, then they get the ax.
IMHO, we probably do not delete enough. I had no idea there was so much crazy racial stuff here until BigJay pointed it out to me on EF Select. The mods and I cannot monitor everything 100% of the time.
If however you want to criticize me or my company in a constructive way, then I have always allowed this. Although 95% of the posts about Mass Quantities are positive. I do not delete the negative ones. And I do not delete threads like this that may be critical of how this board is run. All this stuff stays even if it hurts my site and business in the short run, because in the long run, I know that this site will be a better place because of it.
Try posting constructive criticism on another fitness board -- I guarantee it will not stay around for long. But then again, neither will the words "Elite Fitness" if you try mentioning this site on the other boards on the Net.
