I know there is a special forum for it, but come on, we're not dum-dums. Anyone else love science Q&A type stuff? Maybe they will let this thread stay here until morning. I hope so. This could be fun. Just post up some Q's and wait for answers. I bet a lot of u ppl did this shit in school. It can be about anything. Just have fun with science current events, facts and history.
I'll go first:
Before the barometer was discovered, what animal did German meteorologists use to predict air pressure change?

Why the hell can't neutral kaons decay to pions by weak interactions? The whole thing about not being in a definite state of mass is totally a cop out.

String Theory....discuss....

Overrated and relies too heavily on mathematical formalism and premises that cannot be experimentally tested. Basically little more than theoretical applied mathematics.

Sure it can. They call it M-Theory.

Those math people can generalize anything and everything.

:cow:

I hate those math people. They are like martians or something. They pick everything apart and then throw it back into the same bowl.

What six flavors of quarks make up 100% of all elements?

:cow:

Do u mean all of them or how many pairs? All elements are made of them.... but I am confused. What would the correct answer be?

I'm pretty sure they just make up things as they go along. If that doesn't work, they just fake it and obscure it with really obtuse and abstract formalism.

Sounds kinda off center......
People are off center; I'm amazed by the wonder I've seen in the universe and I think that diminishing it by assigning a supernatural cause makes it lesser for all of humanity. :worried:

How many chemical reactions occur in the normal human brain every second?
Not sure but I bet it is different for every person.
Chemical rections in the entire body and brain are part of a persons metabolism so I am sure that everyone will not be the same

billions if not trillions.

nuero horomonal stuff is very interesting.

most behavioral theory is being debunked \ amended and is moving to "cognitive sciences"

philosophy & psychology

Lots of overlap. Have you read The Origin by Irving Stone? U would prolly like it but it's kinda thick.

no i haven't.

i read a lot of diamond, shermer, dennett and gould a few years ago.

i subscribed to "skeptic" magazine and i wanted to at least have a cursory
understanding of evolution. i am kinda autoeducated lol.

The Origin is great. Talks about Darwin's start. He started of studying religion..... til he noticed a couple of things. The whole book is about his life.

haven't read that one but i am very familiar with his story.

how wallace discovered evolution and forced darwins hand to
publish.

yep, he started out in the seminary and later became a naturalist.

his wife was a christian and he was loathed to publish his findings
at Galapagos.............

he had no special abilities in math, was an average student etc...
