I'm in some seriuos fucking pain here

The exact same thing happened to me over XMAS this past year! I was doing shrugs and felt a sudden pop in my neck, and immediately had a bad crick . A few hours later I tried to sleep but couldnt because of the pain and Swelling. I got my girl to drive me to the emergency room and they ended up taking xrays and said I had the exact signs of a serious case of whip-lash. They gave me a shot of nubain and a precription of hydrocodone. Nubain was the shit! I went straight to sleep and slept the whole next day. Felt alot better when I woke up, but it was at least a week b4 i was 100%. So if I were you I would deffinently go to the doc!

Good luck...

i did the same thing but i did it when i was sleeping i woke up real quick and snapped my leg in weird way it just takes time to get better but i know the feeling man you cant move your head in anyway to make it more comfortable its hell.

Jesus Christ! All these posts and no one suggests icing? You guys have never had injuries?

First 72 hours you use ice - 20mins on 20mins off. This will make a dramatic difference in the pain level.

After 3 days you use heat. Same thing 20mins on 20mins off.

I've had multiple injuries over the years and icing makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks man, I'll start icing it ASAP. The pain is slightly better now, but I'm also on a shitload of meds (pain killers, muscle relaxers, and Motrin).

I'll grab some ice now.

same thing happened to me 2 years ago..couldnt straighten out my neck for 5 days..after about a week or so i felt better..i took it easy for a while then started to lift again..well the next year and a half i had the same repeat injury almost once a month..i went to a spine surgeon and had an mri done and it revelaed i had a herniated disk at c5/c6..my doc told me that 90% of herniated disks get better with rest and/or physical therapy..other 10% require surgery..i went through physical therapy and finally after 2 years i havent had a problem in months..so i would suggest finding a good physical therapist if the pain is re-occurent..absolutely do not go to a chiropractor!!he/she can make ur neck 10 times worse than it already is..most chiros wont even touch a patient with a pinched nerve..good luck with recovery!

Well i know the feeling,I was hunting in Mississippi and a tree climbing deer stand broke and I was 17' up and landed on my head on a small tree that was laying under the stand and it busted a disk in my neck and the doc had to do surgery put someone elses disk in my neck and fused it and wear a neck brace for about 4 months it was painful before surgery neck had very bad pinching that would go down my left arm and make my forearm have the same pinching feeling it put me out of training for a while and now when i do shruggs i have to concentrate on the traps more and get in a position that does not strain the neck, try it.

Re: you probably just sprained it.

I hope you didn't tear it; were you going HEAVY ? Ice for the 1st 24hours and heat after that. btw...motrin will slow the muscle healing if you are juicing now. If you massage it you should be able to find the knot. If you can bear the pain then gently massage the know to allow blood to get in (same thing I had to do for a shoulder injury) don't do pull ups, squats or heavy curls for a few days.

I would ice it to get the swelling down the start using heat tomorrow (it allows blood to flow to the heated area easier.)

Good luck and go see the doc.

Wasn't really going too heavy....just 315.

No, I'm not juicing right now. I think I'm going to take next week off from training, and return the following weeks. I took a couple muscle relaxers that the Doc gave me, and man I feel like shit on them....all spaced out for some reason. I think I'm juts going to take the motrin and the occasional vicoden when the pain gets unbearable.

Hey JG1 I had the same thing around 3 weeks ago. I got it from db presses though. Immense pain to the rear, right side of the neck going down into my upper back...I haven't trained for 2 weeks but it is more or less better now, can't wait to get back in the gym! The doc advised me to take 400mg ibuprofen and 1000mg paracetamol simultaneously......shit is good, almost completely knocked the pain out. Other than that, just rest it...Good luck.

How do I go about finding a good Chiropractor in my area? I'd love to good one, if I can find one.

Ask in your gym who a good chiro who is familiar with treating athletes. Since you wrenched your neck pretty bad its not going to be fixed with one or two adjustments. DO GO to a CHIROPRACTOR! I've saved my body thru using them and have had alot of injuries. Going to a chiro has helped me stay in the gym. My last problem was splitting headaches just over and around my R eye socket. Turns out my atlas bone (C1 vertebrae) was severely misaligned and causing the problem. It took about 20 adjustments in a month to get me better and I havent had that problem since I have been treated.
If you have problems with insurance you can always work out a deal for say a month of unlimited adjustments. They shouldnt charge more than $150-$200 for that and if you are in alot of pain you can keep getting adjusted 2x/day until the adjustments start to hold more.
Just keep in mind-it may hurt a little more for awhile if adjusted but keep up with it.

lol, lol, lol! Dont' worry at all bro. The same thing happened to me about 4 years ago. I was trying to do flat flyes with only one arm to try to even out my pecs. After that I sat down on the couch watching tv, I tried to get up and my neck felt like it was going to break! I was kind of on my side on the couch and I seriously could not move because every little move hurt the shit out of it. I finally managed to get up kind of into a sitting position but I had to keep my head tipped over to one side, if I tried to lift it up to normal it would really hurt! I had to keep it like that for about 4or 5 days. I didn't go to the doctor. But that is seriours pain.
