You'll probably love the D/FW area, if you are used to cities. It's crowded, traffic is impossible during rush hours, etc., that is the worst of it. We have been invaded by "yankees" for so long now because of our jobs that you find people from everywhere. If you go out, you'll probably talk to several people at the restaurant/ club as Texans do like to talk. I wouldn't be surprised if you run into somebody that lived in or near where your hometown is.
We are different from most states as we do have a love for our state that others don't. It is something that is ingrained from early childhood. We know our state song by heart and sing it with enthusiasm. It may stem from the fact that Texas is the only state in the union that was once it's own republic, with it's own president, congress and laws.
Texas is a name derived from the Caddoan Indian word "taysha" meaning "friend". Being friendly is one of the things we're best known for.
There's tons of things to see and do in and around Dallas, I hope you have some free time. BM and Grump live in the area between Dallas and Fort Worth, it would be really cool to have the time to grab a lunch or dinner w/ them if you could.
I wish I lived closer, I'm 2 1/2 hours down the road.
