I Initially posted this in another thread, but I figure I would get a better response here.

I watched this video of Dorian working out. Now before I make the next statements, let me be very clear - I know nearly nothing about BBing workouts. Seriously. As in I may have read an article or two on the subject and that is about it. So, after watching that video I came away with two thoughts...

1) I would have expected that he would have been pushing bigger iron. His musculature sure seemed like it was capable of it an in fact would need it for the sheer mass that was hanging off him.

2) If you could peel the fat of an elite PLer like Coan or Karwoski would they look like that underneath it all?

Sorry for the stoopit questions...

PS Why what he wearing a belt for DB flyes?

IMO they would probably have comparable musculature but not definition. Powerlifters tend to have a "blocky" look compared to BB'ers who specifically train for definition as well as mass. Any input from anyone else?

This discussion was up on alcatraz's sticky, I think it was ceo who posted up some before and after pictures of a powerlifter who used to post here and decided to cut, yes he looked good but his lat spread wasnt very good and his forearms and lower back were out of proportion to his body, his forearms were nearly as big as big biceps. He did look pretty thick tho...

Ill find a link hold on...

EDIT:http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/weight-training-weight-lifting/bodybuilding-routines-post-your-bodybuilding-training-help-new-routine-612272-21.html

I gotta disagree about the forearms. Look at most of the pros, there forearms are massive and pretty close to there bi's.

I still also can't conform the lack of weight that Dorian is pushing with the size of his musculature. Like I said above, it seems like he would be needing to be lifting heavier to have that kind of mass.

that video does not shows yates max lifts.
pretty much shows his warm up sets. watch blood and guts to see him lift heavey weights
such as 405lbs incline presses, 405 bent over rows , 315 stiff legged deadlifts
500lb+ deadlifts and so on for sets

That guy looks like a guy who is huge because he is a strength athlete who competes based on his ability to lift, and that is way cooler to me than a bodybuilder physique. I understand they are completely different areas of strength training, but I personally am more in awe of form that flows from function. I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, just what I would pick if it I could snap my fingers and look a certain way. There is no arguing the time and dedication spent to look like a Mr. O, but still, it just isn't the same for me. One is a spectacle, and I don't mean that in a condescending manner, the other just looks fucking mean as hell. That lower back screams, "I will crush you." Kind of like Dave Tate since he cut up. He may still be no Jay Cutler, Dorian Yates, or so on, but the guy just looks like he can rip your face off. That is cool to me.

B you could have picked another bodybuilder, now I will just have to cut you in pieces and feed you to the crackheads on newark penn station

Dorian Yates was and still is the freakiest THING to ever step on a Mr O stage, there was no one like him, the guy looks like made from granite and there is no Powerlifter, or Strongman, or Bodybuilder who could match that hard look, he redifined the concept of hardness on bodybuilding.

Now bodybuilding's goal it's not lifing the heaviest weights possible, that's powerlifting, oly lifting and strongmen job. Sure bodybuilders are strong mofos too, but they don't usually do max lifts, instead they usually work on the 20-6 rep range to get all muscle fybers to grow to their fullest potential, focusing on mind muscle-connection and the pump.

One thing it's for sure you won't see a contest ready shape bodybuilder lifting heavy ass weights, because there's little body fluids to protect his joints and their energy levels are at their lowest, so why do it? It's not worth risking your chances to be a champion onstage just because someone wants to see you going all out and actually looking shredded.

Want to see bodybuilders lifting heavy? Watch a couple of videos of off-season bodybuilders and you will have a clear picture of how good they really are at it.

I have to say that I agree with you about Dorian. I have always appreciated his build more than most. He looked even better when he got rid of that bleach blond mullet.

I've seen the Kirk clip. Any guesses as to his BF% in it? 15-18% maybe?

I'm too stoopit to know more than how to set up a squat rack...

Lol at the bleach mullet.
Kirk has quite good abs, he has to be below 15%.

He still has a blocky PL type look imo. Anyone else agree/disagree?

Well this one it's not that clear because he is a tall guy, at 6ft and being blocky it's kinda hard, but most short powerlifters tend to be blocky. Plus the way how powerlifters display themselves it's instigating on people's mind that they are like walls and nobody can go through them.
The way bodybuilders display themselves must be more graceful, fluid and artistical. What I'm trying to say is that a powerlifter's success at bodybuilding it can only be accomplished if he devotes himself not only to the weight, diet and contes shape but also to harmony and artistic expression, not presenting himself on stage like he is angry at the world and looking like he wants to rip someone apart.

But we are angry at the world, and like to eat small children as extra protein.
